Open Office Downloading Issues
jglide:
Hi folks,
I have the latest version of open office, but I have lots of problems downloading ppts, pptx and documents. Usually I get an error saying "Read Error. Error reading file" or "failed to save the converted file". In happens to all formats though every once in a while there are some files that I am able to download. I haven't been able to figure out why this happens. I have no problems downloading content at school (which has Microsoft Office). Can anyone help me with this?

Try uninstalling Open Office and re-installling it... that might fix any problem you have with it.
Alternatively...it could be a virus that is causing the trouble but that is unlikely. However....just in case download this...it's free for 30 days and run it twice. http://www.avira.com/en/free-download-avira-antivir-personal
Beyond that google the problem...

not sure about open office but you can always torrent yourself a free copy of MSoffice and as for anti-virus, download this instead, its fully free http://www.microsoft.com/security/pc-security/mse.aspx

hey! I've been having the same exact problems. someone told me that there was a new update that was just released on April 14th...which is about the time my Powerpoint started acting up. this person told me that there was a bug in the new update. to get rid of it, you need to go to your add/remove programs, show updates and delete security update KB2464588. I tried doing this but it wouldn't let me uninstall it because I didn't have the CD to reinstall it. soooooo I've been "restoring" my system to April 7th. It's worked for a little bit then it gets all weird again.
good luck!

I believe that they have stopped open office now. All the programmers have gone to LibreOffice and thats the new open source office suite. So have a look at that. I have it installed on my mac and it seems awesome enough (though visually it looks bland).
Hope this helps!
