Could someone tell me if I'll get a multiple school allowance for teaching after school classes at another school, in addition to the amount for teaching the extra classes? Right now, I teach at an elementary school (20 classes per week). I've been approached by the VP at another school to teach a couple of after school classes at his high school. Will I be eligible for the multiple school allowance (because it it will be at another school)? Also, will I be compensated extra money for teaching the after school classes at this high school, even though I only teach 20 classes a week at my current elementary school?

I see two ways that this can go.

1. Get the extra allowance but teach two classes for free.

2. No extra allowance but get paid for the extra classes.

IIRC, you get an extra 50,000 for one extra school, right? And you'd be getting 20,000 or 30,000 per class for after school (depending on whether it's within your working hours). So definitely forget the allowance but go for the extra pay.

I teach at two elementary schools and get an extra 100,000 won for doing so. If you teach any more then I think it's 50,000 per subsquent school. At least it is in my contract!

You'll probably end up with nothing.

You won't get the multiple school allowance because the Office of Education is not assigning the second school. The second school will promise to pay you at the end of the term... but will fail to do so - claiming the classes did not put you over your contractual, 22 per week.
The Ks once gave me five minutes notice. I didn't know what to do with the extra time.

All good points to consider. Wouldn't the high school have to go through the Office of Education in order to get an extra school added to my E2 visa? These are questions I'll be asking when administration and I talk again. Thanks!

No, as long as the second school falls under the perview of your employer (POE or MOE) it doesn't have to be added to your visa. An exception to this would be if you are one of the very few PS teachers actually employed by your school. Who is your employer?

personally, I wouldn't expect the allowance.

I work in three schools. the partnership was contracted amongst the schools before they adverstized for my position. I was offered a position and signed a contract that says I work in three schools.

I took on an afterschool activity class with a local high school. My contract says this is illegal and it actually prohibits it. My KT was pushing for me to take the position though and got permission from my principal to work the extra hours. I thought it was illegal in Korea for me to take the job, but its not korean law, just my contract. On the advice of a lawyer, I got the school to provide a written letter giving me permission to work the extra job.

but I sincerely doubt that we can make the schedule that we want to make and then start asking for multiple school allowances. also, my high school paid me by the month. I wouldn't wait until the end of term for salary. when I signed the contract, I knew that I would be paid once a month around the 3rd. hope that helps!

I am a so-called "direct hire" at my school and I also have to teach at a local English station where every school in the area sends their kids for a one-day camp every semester - those schools pay us (three teachers) directly - the local Office of Education  uses the three of us because there is no additional paperwork as we are direct hires - none of this is explicitly in our contract and there is no paperwork that we sign approving of this "arrangement"  - it is just considered another assignment like winter and summer camps that we are obligated to do - I like the extra million or so won we get every month but it has no visa ramifications

My employer is the POE, Office of Education in Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do.
