Canadian election results
« on: May 03, 2011, 07:57:26 am »
The polls should be closing about now. What are the initial results? Gone are the days of British Columbians phoning their relatives in eastern Canada to find out early.

I know some people who voted here in Korea. Dunno how they did it though.

...how can I justify watching the election results when more important things like NBA playoff basketball need to be watched!

Yes, you might be right.  I thought Halifax was exactly 12 hours behind Korea, but someone much wiser than me will figure it out.  Sorry for the confusion!

I voted and it's really easy. you just fax a form to Elections Canada requesting a special ballot... they send you your voting kit, (I received mine within a week)... and you just mail it back to Canada...... tres simple!!

and I'm SO anxious to hear the results!!

I wish I was interested but the party leaders and kinda 'meh' for me...

The Liberal guy lived outside of Canada almost as long as he lived in Canada. Harper reminds me of Bill Gates. And Jack Layton enjoys skipping debates, and I kinda think of NDP's as flakes anyway. And I don't really count the Bloc as I'm not from Quebec.

The forms to vote and an explanation of the process are available on the website here: http://www.elections.ca/content.aspx?section=vot&dir=reg/svr&document=index&lang=e

It's not all that difficult, just rather time consuming. You have to fill out the forms, mail them back to Canada with a copy of your ID, wait for Elections Canada to send you your special ballot, then complete it and send it back to them. You may be be able to fax the original forms, but everything else is via snail mail.

The BQ and Liberals could be headed for near anhiliation! Here's hoping for a 'straight from the bottom of his bottle' speech from one of the two leaders.

Quebec is far more socially aware than we (the the rest of Canada) give it credit for.  Thank you Quebec for standing up to the old two party system; you have honoured the legacy of NDPers like Blakeney and Broadbent and all they fought for.  Unfortunately, the Conservatives have won a majority; the Liberal party has imploded (never thought I'd see the day).  It is time for Ralph Goodale (perhaps the only Liberal with integrity) to found a new party centred not in Upper and Lower Canada but in the West.  Whatever the outcome, this has been one of the most exciting elections in years.

Oh, there'll be a two-party system after this election. It's just that one of them won't be the Liberals.

The Torries are just a few seats away from a majority it seems.

Ignatieff is losing my riding of Etobicoke-Lakeshore by 2000 votes and Duceppe has lost his seat. I am currently in a state of total shock.
