NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!  Ack!  I wish I had voted at the embassy!  I am kicking myself!

Not as much as Ignatieff is for forcing the election.

He spent all of last summer going around trying to suck up to commoners and now it looks like he'll lose his own seat.

I've been watching live in CBC.ca and I don't see how the Consevatives have a majority yet.
Lord Buddha please help me, for I am not smart enough to make it dumb enough for them to understand.

The Greens may get as many seats as the Bloc.

Wow.  I wasn't expecting a majority.

Good for the Green Party for finally getting a seat, maybe they'll get some respect now.  However, that being said, we have too many left wing parties already.  At least one of them has to go (the Liberals look like they're trying to eliminate themselves).

I wish Rae had. I wonder what he thinks about jumping ship now.

I think it's safe to say Iggy isn't going to have his job as leader of the Liberal party for much longer.

Why are Canadians so stupid? Why are we afraid to have well educated people in power? Why are we giving up our social programs? Our right to choose? Our health care?  If anyone thinks that Harper is not going to cut all of these things, they are mistaken.

I guess Korea has to put up with me for at least 4 more years

No, Korea goes to the polls sooner, with Park Geunhye being set up for succession. She will be to the Korean women's movement what Thatcher was to Britain's.

As for Canadians, when it comes to who's going to manage our money, more of us are impressed by an economist than an UCC oldboy.

I think Harper is smart enough NOT to deviate too much from the centre. But, if he does, then it might ultimately be a good thing for the lefties. Canadians might think he's gone too far to the right and it might make them lose the next election.

Yeah, he's smart enough not to go too extreme but he also doesn't care personally about moral issues like gays and abortion - he can go with whatever cards suit him best.

Wow he sure looked happy tonight. Who ever would have thought he could be PM for a whole decade.

So voter turnout set a new record at 58.0%. It seems we are indeed becoming more and more American.

I wish I was interested but the party leaders and kinda 'meh' for me...

The Liberal guy lived outside of Canada almost as long as he lived in Canada. Harper reminds me of Bill Gates. And Jack Layton enjoys skipping debates, and I kinda think of NDP's as flakes anyway. And I don't really count the Bloc as I'm not from Quebec.

Jack Layton enjoys skipping debates? I was unable to watch the debate, but from my NDP supporting friend, apparently he was present and was even the clear victor?

This is true. Most suspect that the orange wave was a result from Layton's awesome performance in both the English and French debate. The only leader who didn't make it to the debate was Elizabeth May, and that's because she wasn't allowed.

Ignattieff challenged Harper on a one-on-one debate, but Harper backed out. As for local debates here in British Columbia, most of the conservative candidates were no shows.

Not as much as Ignatieff is for forcing the election.

Ignatieff didn't force the election. The Liberals told the Conservatives they wouldn't support the budget, and the NDP said they would support it only if the conservatives tweaked the budget to secure retirement income etc. The Conservatives only needed the NDP's support  to pass the budget, but refused to make concessions or try to compromise.

On the day of the vote, everybody knew the budget was going to be voted down. Knowing that the country was going to have an election anyways, Ignatieff tried passed a motion to find Stephen Harper in contempt of Parliament- in hopes that the public would react negatively to the Conservatives.

ANYWAYS, what I'm trying to say is that it was the Conservatives triggered the election. They were showing well in the polls, so for them, this was the perfect time to hold one. The Liberals found an election inevitable, tried to make the most of it - and failed.
