Connecting to other Christians
« on: May 05, 2011, 12:51:26 am »
I did a web search looking for a website to connect Christians to churches, events, and resources in Busan and South East Korea (Daegu, Gyeongsang-do).  I could not find any site so I decided to make my own blog/ website called www.busanchristian.com.  I encourage anyone to come and look at it.  It lists churches in the region, talks about a small group course available in English with Korean subtitles, and even has tracts you can hand out to Jehovah’s Witnesses which will ensure they never knock on your door again.

I want to add more content and churches so please email me on the blog about something you know.

Pot? Kettle? Black?

What is the meaning of this comment?  Strange !!!!!
Everything is not as it seems.

No one owes you anything.... get over it.

not really that strange at all, did you read the OP?

The OP is endorsing her site and asking people to come and look at it, while in the same breath making a tongue in cheek comment about Jehovahs witnesses for going door to door about thier faith. In other words shes making a negative comment about JW's going door to door spreading their faith while posting a link to one that spreads hers.

Her last comment is really vague in its meaning. It  sounds an awful lot like "my religion is better( than Jehovahs)" Which is I am sure what sparked the POt kettle black comment

I think there's a rather big difference between notifying the general public (some of whom are Christian) about the existence of website for Christians to connect to each other, and visiting someone personally in an attempt to convert them.

The OP was simply giving the information about the site in hopes that the people it is relevant for will visit. I don't think they were trying to get non-Christians to go if they don't want to.

Just saying...

I agree with you.  You certainly didn't have to click the link.  As an atheist I can't stand people who insist on trolling Christians.

Yeah there is a difference between JW's going to your door uninvited as opposed to this post which isn't imposing on anyone. It's just giving info and it's your choice to take it or leave it. Although the orginal post probably could have done without that comment, it's not quite the pot calling the kettle black.

I also agree. The JWs come round and practically force their way into your house (in that annoyingly insistent non-threatening way). They harass you in the street. Nobody is standing there pushing your finger to click the mouse. However, if this site is suddenly flooded with religious threads then there might be something to worry about. Until that happens, I don't see that the occasional post, meant to appeal to like-minded individuals on waygook.org is anything like what the JWs get up to. Pot calling the kettle black, it is not.
In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.

I also agree, but even though I disagree on the equality of the two things, I understand the comment that its a slight case of Pot Kettle.  I am simply saying its easy to see where the inference came from, even if you dont agree with it on general principle :)

I was in the same boat (that she isn't being a JW), until I read the entry on her page about JW's. That is ridiculous.

From her website:

JW's are lost people who need to have a real relationship with a loving God.  All they know is what they are told from the Watch Tower society.  For these people it is important they know about the REAL JESUS and when they come to the door you can show them this pamphlet about their religion's history written in Korean.

As an Atheist I have no direct relationship with any deity, but I am pretty sure your god would be upset with you. Aren't you supposed to accept your neighbor for their differences?

Via your  blog: "Have you ever had Jehovah's Witnesses (JW) knock on your door or hand you literature on the street.  I have had that happen about 5 times in Korea.  JW's are lost people who need to have a real relationship with a loving God.  All they know is what they are told from the Watch Tower society.  For these people it is important they know about the REAL JESUS and when they come to the door you can show them this pamphlet about their religion's history written in Korean.  Make sure they read it in front of you, otherwise they may just throw it away.  It could either help them to know God or never knock on your door again."

I'd say something clever about this, but I'm just going to stare with one eyebrow raised and say " Reaallllyyyy...".

What if I set up a thread asking people to join me in going door to door? Where does that fall in your Kettle argument?

OP, as someone in Gyeongbuk who has a lot of trouble finding a church to go to, I really appreciate your effort and was definitely interested. The language you used in that blog post about JWs was really off-putting, though. It's the exact same kind of tone I get from people who tell me I can't really be Christian because I'm Catholic. Honestly, seeing it makes me not want to be involved in this at all, and I'm assuming other people would feel the same way. If you want this website to include lots of different denominations, I would really recommend removing or changing it.

Well going on the JW tangent, not that I necessarily agree with putting anyone's beliefs down but anything that keeps the JW's away from me would be nice.  I've been stalked by them over the last few weeks, I can't put it any other way.  They somehow got my phone number, wait outside for me after school, call me countless times and day and send me lengthy text messages about how I need saving.  This is despite the fact that I have told them repeatedly that I am not interested.  I don't care how good they may think their intentions are.  It's plain stalking.

I don't think God would be upset. If you are a Christian, you would try to explain to JW about your beliefs and why you disagree with the JW take on the Bible. I wouldn't go so far as to hope they don't show up on my door because of it (I should relish the opportunity to spread the gospel, if I truly believe what I say I do), but it is important to show them the "REAL JESUS". The Jesus that JW believe in isn't the same, life-changing Jesus of the Bible. Just my two cents.

Do you have anything to politely make other Christians go away? Or Christians in general (including Jay-Dubs)?

Can the OP give me something to show the Christians that come to my door (way more often than JW)? Since none of them are (insert my religion here) they will all surely burn in hell and I would like something to inform them of this.
