This is a lesson I used for my second grade classes. It went over really well. I teach at an all boys high school but with some adaptations this will work just as well or better in a girls or co-ed school.

I use this Mr. Bean video to start off class and get students talking, asking them what Mr. Bean did wrong or what they would have done differently.

Then I go onto the PPT and present the different dating scenarios. I tried to use situations which would cause some disagreement among the students so they could debate and defend their choices. After we go through those I explain some of the key terms for internet dating and students internet dating profiles for the celebrities and share with the rest of the class.

I can't seem to download the powerpoint. it says that it can not find the file. I have a pretty old version of powerpoint. IS there any way you could save it in an older version?

I saw your lesson plan at the teacher training and I really liked it. I think it will be great for my school toO!

Here's a worksheet I found somewhere that talks about pick up lines and ways to turn men/women down. It could be useful for this topic.

Today I did a lesson on Suggestions: Making, Accepting and Rejecting. I made somewhat of a non-traditional suggestion box. Students wrote down real-life problems on a piece of paper and placed them inside of the box. Most of the "real-life" problems pertained to not having a girlfriend. I think this lesson will really be a great one for next weekend. They will love it! They seemed to really need help in that area.

I haven't taught this lesson yet, but definitely plan to.

I was wondering if any of your schools have a rule that states "no relationships [bf/gf] in school".

My school has such rule, so I'm a bit hesitant to teach certain parts of the lesson, such as online profiles or "what makes a good bf/gf" (I wanted to ask girls what their ideal partner would be like, vice versa with the guys).

I definitely plan on teaching the "Should you _____ on the first date" part though. That sounds exciting ^^

Anyone have any input regarding the appropriateness of the other parts I wanted to do for this lesson?

My school doesn't have such a rule (as far as I know) but we recently had a MAJOR scandal because (shock, horror, gasp) a boy and a girl kissed outside of school while in school uniform and the VP saw them. I was hesitant that this lesson wouldn't go down well since this 'scandal' was only a month ago but the kids loved it and my co-teachers raved about it.

My students sit at tables in groups of three, so I think I'll give each group a different celebrity to fill out a dating profile for, and then have each group present their profile to the class.

....or better yet, let them CHOOSE a celebrity (or another student) to fill out a dating profile for. I'm sure they'll have lots of fun with it!

My students LOVED the video clip. It got them talking about what Mr. Bean did wrong on the date, and if they thought the woman would go on another date with him. They seemed really interested in the "Western" dating culture, and they just finished a unit on Feminism, so they had very interesting answers to the questions on the powerpoint.

Thanks so much for sharing. The video is hilarious and the powerpoint is great... love the pictures. I don't know if my students will have the English level for this lesson, since they're only in middle school, but I might try it with A-ban.

Thank you so much for this worksheet! I revised it for my lower level high school students and my co-teacher helped me add some Korean translations. Hope this can help someone.

Yes!! Mr. Bean is soo wonderful! I even use his clips with my elementary students. They just love him and think he is so fuuny. I highly recommend Mr. Bean to all students of all ages because he really does motivate the students to start speaking in English.

I would recommend Mr. Bean in the library. There are easy vocba words that students can use such as: books, library, man...etc..plus they think it's so funny.

Great lesson plan!

The Mr. bean clip is a little risky with the "tail between the legs of Pink Panther" bit, but on the other hand, it is an internationally known show. But to be safe, I played the entire clip on "mute." The body language alone is enough to understand the message...
