I see this as a difference in culture. Yes, it's abhorrent...in our cultures to say 'healthy thighs' are somehow bad for you.
But, after speaking to different Korean women about the beauty standard, it's seen as "attractive" to be soft and jiggly. I remember one time, I saw my Korean friend and worriedly said, "You're so skinny!" to which she beamed and replied, "Thanks!" Did you notice the vid's 'compliments' of skinny, doll-like, slender, etc.?
To tell the truth, I don't really find Korean women attractive. But, after watching that segment, I couldn't help but think, 'Where are THOSE women?!'. I'm happily engaged to my fiance, and we've spoken about the lack of booties over here.
Being less-toned is better here, just as being articially whitened, and surgically operated on. I was just at the bus stop yesterday after hiking a bit in Daegu, and all the mid. school girls had short shorts on, and I was surprised by the amount of cellulite that these girls had...but then I thought, "It's Korea."
Also, Arirang, like CNN, has the spin machine on full blast. As much as they criticize NKorea for propaganda, SKorea does the same in regards to mis-infoming viewers. Just about the only thing I find of value on Arirang is the Korean lessons at midnight.
Agreed with Oskinny, I have used 'healthy' to politely describe a meatier individual, more ofther a woman. "She eats right!! That's one healthy girl!" I just think we embrace...girth more than Korea.
