Problems with new registrations
« on: January 05, 2010, 12:23:07 pm »
A friend of mine tried to register with the site but never got the confirmation email. I confirmed the problem by trying to register with a second ID and also did not get the confirmation email.

I also tried to send a message to the Web Admin via the messages page but it doesn't look like it happened. There is no message in my 'Sent' box.

That's weird, and I don't know what's causing it.  I just went into the admin section and activated all the members awaiting approval, some as far back as the summer.  Not sure why some members have to be approved but some don't.  Usually people just register and they're good to go.

Very sorry for the delay, everyone who tried to register earlier.  If you're still interested in posting, we'd of course welcome your contributions.

Ok, fixed the issue for now.

I need to look at php mail to see why it's not working as it should.  However, there won't be a need for an email check at this point.  This isn't something that really deters BOTS anyway.  There just a few questions to be answer during registration, which so far has done a really good job at keep bots off. ;)

Anyone who's been having issues with account activation, should be able to log in at this point using their credentials.

Alright, issue is completely resolved.  Mail should be arriving in your mailbox as expected.  Just make sure to check the spam folder in case it gets mistaken for junk mail.

I had to fix this considering that even though activating through email isn't necessary for security, if someone forgets their password, at least they can resort to getting it sent over by email automatically.

Mail is being sent out, like I said, they may need to check their junk folder.

You think I should just make it an immediate registration?

No, I don't think that's necessary.  I thought some people were being approved instantly while some were not, but I get it now that it was an issue with spam folders.

With the new semester here, there will likely be a surge in the number of new members.  Welcome, and I hope the site is as useful for you as it's been for a lot of us.

I just want to bump up this thread to let new visitors know some people have had problems registering, and problems getting activated after they've registered.  Usually it's practically instantaneous, and you get an email letting you activate your account.  A small number of users have issues, and I just logged in and activated six people in limbo going back to February 22nd.  If you don't receive an email in a timely manner, check your spam folder to make sure the message wasn't diverted there.  (In my case, about 75% of the messages from waygook.org get diverted there, unfortunately).

If you have any problems with signing up, or if you've signed up but haven't been activated and there's nothing in your spam folder, feel free to email me at deutsch.brian at gmail, and I'll see what I can do.
