Lessons for the last week of class?
« on: February 05, 2010, 01:17:07 pm »
I've already taught all of the lessons in our book and held review sessions.  I still have one class period to fill with each of my 6th grade classes.  I was planning on either showing a movie or having a review game that covered the entire semester.  My co-teacher shot down both ideas and said the students expect something special for the last day.  Any ideas on what "something special" could mean?

I've done some year end parties and when I ask for suggestions one common one I get is to do a "rolling paper".  Each student gets a paper...teachers too...and then you pass them around and you write a note to each person...it's a nice momento or your time together.

Last week of class lesson suggestion: Behind your back activity
Ask students if they know what a compliment is. Have students give different examples of compliments. List them on the board. Then, give each student a card (index size), piece of tape and a marker. Instruct them to write their name at the top of the card and then tape their card to their back. Then have them walk around the classroom and write a compliment on another student’s card. When the activity is finished students can read what was said about them and their card as a class souvenir. Students love it!

Another suggestion: Review card
Ask students to recall what lessons you had together. Write their answers on the board. Students will then be instructed to anonymously create a review card. This will help you and give the student an outlet to let you really know what they thought of your class. Three suggested subjects for them to write about are: 1. Favorite lesson 2. What I have learned 3. Any comments.
