Asia's most sinful cities
« on: May 13, 2011, 10:33:26 am »
South Korea has been ranked the 15th laziest country in the world (and the first in Asia)
I thought they are workaholics ???

The article is identifying gaming with sloth. Obviously the author doesn't realize how many sleepless nights it takes to make a lvl 85 wow character.

People in south korea work long long hours.  But when you look at the actual work completed it does not justify the hours worked.  That is the typical arguement anyways.

I think they work very very hard. Have you ever been there after a parade or street event? As soon as the crowd subsides and the police men tell everyone to get on the sidewalk... a large entourage of people with brooms and other cleaning supplies, trucks, vaccuums, hoses etc come and clean the whole street within minutes. In Canada the street looks like crapola for 4-5 days after a festival. Games and drinking shouldn't be the primary criterion.

They forget to add there are a lot of Americans living in Seoul  ;D

PS - I am American and it is a joke, so don't be like "YOU DON'T KNOW ME!"

Yep.

I wouldn't give anyone in my office any credit. Yea, they sit here 8h/day, and come in on every other Saturday - but they teach like 16 classes per week, don't make lesson plans, and spend each day online shopping, eating, yelling and playing board games. It's hilarious how they're all yawning and telling me how tired they are at 5pm!

Very unproductive workers.

I think we Koreans are genetically predisposed to get addicted to computer games.

Here's the link to the article listing the laziest countries.  They use four factors when making their list: calories per day, television viewing, "sports aversion", and internet usage.  Unsurprisingly, America and Canada were numbers 1 and 2, respectively.

Interesting, but hardly very thorough or scientific.

Also note, that the article on the laziest countries does not even consider average number of hours worked or "quality" of work done.  It only looks at free time.

Terrible, terrible article.

Seol-ites are lazy because they play online games?
Shenzen is greedy because the likes of Apple, IBM, and Dell contract huge companies to overwork their cheap labor to churn out electronic goods for us to buy?

Thanks Andrew Willis!

I like the first sentence to the article, totally proves their point (sarcastic tone)

"When South Koreans are not racking up overtime, they're collecting bandwidth fees"

not worded as: putting in, or just plain working overtime, but RACKING UP . . . yeah laziness right there.

Sinful? I don't know.... but places like Bangkok I would definitely rank up higher on the "sinful" list.

I find yahoo articles totally unreliable. most part time jobs here get underpaid and most places don't even provide benefits.

Seoul is a pretty sinful city, I'd suspect. Sinshi maybe? Where ever you go, in Seoul it'll be a complex of Church / WaBar / Jimjibang.

This definitely isn't a light-hearted article that's intended to be tongue-in-cheek.

These kids have been learning English from the age of 6+ they should all be fluent, by the time they get to high school.

Wish I had learnt French from that age.

GOD sinning is hard work.
