Strike It Lucky!
« on: May 13, 2011, 02:15:49 pm »
Just played Strike it Lucky game based on a UK tv show some years back.

Basically played with 3 rows and 5 columns. Each column header is assigned points (e.g.1,2,3,5,7). Each row header contains answers relating to a target language question. For example, I used "Do you want some...? for food items and the reponses were "Yes, please", "Sure, why not?" and "No thanks. I'm full". So you should have a grid of 15 spaces, in each space is a card (facedown) which is either an arrow to move ahead, a red spot which means out, or a 'Q' which means a question must be answered to move to the next column. I used 4 red spots 5 questions cards and 6 arrows. [I had to make students turn away when mixing up the cards for the next round]

I gave the winning team some candy then made them take a bag of candy to ask the teachers in the teachers room "Do you want some candy?"

A quick search on youtube will show examples of the show itself to help with the concept of the game. I'm currently unable to use PPT's in the classroom. Also, I'm not very good with PPT's and not sure if it will work but if someone could design a template that would be great, as this game can be adapted for different responses.

Happy teaching!  ;D

I've just found and modified a PPT to use for the game. I'm going to do the lesson with my new 1st graders.
