How do you guys manage "Story Time"?  I've been using fill-in-the-blank and fix the dialogue, but there's only so much you can do with that.  I was thinking about adding a brief lessons on smells, and how to describe them (i.e. "this smells like_______." "this smells good." etc).  Just hoping for some discussion/feedback.  Happy Friday!  ^^

My co-teacher and I ended up doing an activity where we break each sentence up using cards and we have the students put the words in the correct order on the board.  We got quite a bit of participation on this.  We also made about 6 groups and had each group read one line of the story for practice.  They seemed to enjoy that.  I have attached the PPT that we printed out and used. Hope that helps if only a little bit.  :)

Does anyone know how to get the pictures from the story-time stories to use in a power point? It doesn't seem to be as easy as cut and paste and I would like to make a disappearing dialogue power point. For whatever reason my students loved it for the first 'washing machine' story.

Here's my lesson for the story "Washing Machine" (part 2).  Get the kids to jump up or raise their hand if they can fill in the blanks.  I will post part 3 soon under Unit 3.

Thank you for the power point! The pictures from Washing Machine (2) were exactly what I was looking for!

To make mine, I used the website instead of the cd - www.english56.kr - you need to sign up but it's much more convenient than the CD since you can just minimize it to switch to something else when using it in class instead of having to exit it.

Anyway, I just used the 'print screen' button when watchingthe story on the website/cd and pasted it into Paint, then cropped it.  Easy as pie.

copy and paste from someone elses ppt! :) or do a screen shot, of use a 'snipping tool' or something called pickpic http://en.softonic.com/s/pick-pic
you can search on the CD for images, but I find they are too small and not good enough quality.

you don't have to exit, just press the 'windows' button on your keyboard to toggle (this one:

I'm teaching the storytime section next Monday but I find the story extremely boring and awkward.  My co-teachers, luckily, are letting me change it to something more exciting for the kids as long as I keep the key words, bad, smells, works hard, etc. I'll post if it goes well. Anybody else doing the same?

**  REVISED PPT***

Changes on slide 21

It feels good to be able to contribute something to the site.  Love you guys.  PPT attached with places in the neighborhood, maze game for practice, a map for additional practice, prepositions, and dictation game in which one ss from each team memorizes 1 line and dictates to team. Team writes it down and team with all the lines correct wins

You can also alt+tab out of the CD and into another open program -- unlike the old CDs, this one doesn't need you to change the screen resolution, so pressing alt+tab to flip over to your powerpoint presentation of pre-loaded youtube video works just fine.

Here's a Pirates Game from the Megapack for the first half of this lesson. It focuses exclusively on prepositions and target vocab, without getting into directions yet. I noticed something wonky with the "search" slides and I think I fixed the animation but it's always good to double check!

On Monday, we're going to do a class activity inspired by Logo (does anyone else remember that?) for review.  The students will give Logo directions on where to go on the map I've drawn on the board.  I've printed up a couple of cute turtle magnets to go with it.  :)

I'm glad you are utilizing them... I will of course be making one for each lesson for at least sixth grade.  However, I haven't got any for the other grades because my other teacher doesn't want to use them.  I'll try to make what I can for you guys. Enjoy!

I will be using this material this week.  Thank you very much for your contribution.

Made  a PPT to learn the prepositions: on, in, under, next to, behind, in front of, across from, between A and B.

I used KING KONG..To make this a hit, Use a Ss face as KK. The kids loved it and laughed the entire time.  I put one example. Just go to Paint. Or put your face on the body.

I also made a reading activity where they have to follow directions. I give directions and they follow on their map and label. I did it quickly so that is why it is handrawn. Just did it, and it went over pretty well.

Paint (그림판) works just fine.  Ctrl-E will bring up the canvas-size-changing screen.  Click and drag the picture so that the part you want is in the top-left corner, and then trim away.

I am unfortunately NOT a Paint expert, so I don't know if there's an easier way using that draw-a-rectangle tool.

Here are three .avi clips lifted from Utube, and one more in the next.  All concern prepositions.  There are three rules when it comes to teaching grammar: repetition, repetition, and repetition.  So it helps to mention early and often that the kids are learning prepositions.  Sometimes I play these while they are doing worksheets.

Re: Grade 6 Lesson 2 - Is This York Street? Storytime section

Hey Everyone,

This is my first time contributing materials. I hope they come in handy. Because I didn't like the story about the washing machine, I came up with a way to introduce ad libs to the kids.  After we read the story and went through the PPT I did the ad lib section.  I modified a beautiful ppt that someone posted earlier (thank you!) to fit my lesson and added a short intro to ad libs at the end. I then did an example on the excel worksheet.

Basically you type in the answer (name of a person, silly action, etc.) in the correct box and scroll to page 2 to read the story. We broke the students up into groups of 6 and each group came up with their own answers to the six questions.  Then I typed each group's answers into the spreadsheet and we read the stories together.  The kids came up with some hilarious versions. The team with the funniest story (as judged by me and my co-teacher) won stickers.  I left my example answers in the worksheet.  I hope you enjoy.
