Ottawa is awesome -- yay or nay?

So I'm moving to Ottawa!  I know nothing about Ottawa.  I haven't spent any substantive time there since a tenth grade field trip.  What do you think about life in Canada's lovely capital city?  What should a newbie know?

CFWteacher:
Clean, historic, beautiful, great architecture, awesome city!

Can-do:
Ottawa is beautiful especially in the spring and summer...a little on the cold side in winter so be sure to purchase a very warm jacket. I was in the same position as you a few years ago and had only been to Ottawa once for a short trip in high school, but then my sister went to uni there and I visited all the time. Ottawa has a great farmer's market and lots of museums. There is a great ski hill just over the bridge in Quebec and the canal has bike paths for the summer and skating in the winter. If you like to let-loose on the weekends the night-life is pretty great with lots of pubs and clubs downtown. After spending more time there in the past few years I regret not going there for uni myself!

Ottawa is awesome. They have an amazing Jazz Festival in the summer and the Canada day celebrations are a must see if you're Canadian. Skating on the Rideau Canal is also something you must do in your lifetime.
Just don't cheer for the Ottawa Senators and you're good! (I'm from Toronto by the way, so I'm a little bias haha)

Actually my sister and her friend are moving there in September for some post University schooling. It really is a great city and I'm sure you'll love it!

SamN:
I was born and raised in Ottawa and am heading back this August.
It really is such a nice, clean city. (Not to brag or anything..but it was voted the best place to live in Canada the past two year ;))
There are lots of festivals in the summer. In winter they have the canal opened and Winterlude, with outdoor concerts and ice sculptures.
There is a decent bar scene as well, esp. in the summer with patio season.
One of the only bad things I have to say is that the bus system can be quite awful (and expensive) depending on where you live.
I hope you like it! Feel free to PM with questions
