Cirque du Soleil
« on: May 17, 2011, 06:41:41 pm »
I'm looking for some reviews from anyone who's been to Varekai here in Seoul. I don't want to spend a ton on the tickets; are the 60,000 won tickets good enough to enjoy the show?

Spend that money and some more!! I splurged on the 130 000 W tickets and got a comfy front row seat :)

It was INCREDIBLE!! Completely worth the money! Do yourself a favour and GO!! It's so good I want to be a Cirque groupie now :)

I've seen several Cirque shows, mostly in Vegas. The ones in the tents are a little more limited in terms of what they can do but no less entertaining. The seating arrangement is pretty small so it's hard to get a bad seat though I would avoid anything that's too far off to the sides. The 60,000 won tix were fine IMHO.

I splurged on the 90,000KRW tickets and got a front row seat on stage left. It was the most amazing experience of my life. You should totally go see it. If you can spare the extra 30,000KRW, go for it. If not, it's still going to rock. Enjoy!

I went and I agree with a previous poster, I don't think there is a bad seat in the house.  I had 90 000 won tickets and was more than happy with paying the extra 30 000.  Its worth every bit of money.

the seats were a little small for us big folks, but the show was awesome!  Because of the size of the tent they had to cut a couple parts.  :'(

buying them at the ticket office on-site is also possible though but can' always guarantee someone speaking english will be working so might be a little difficult to communicate where you want to sit exactly

I went on Friday night and it was outstanding! It was the fourth or fifth Cirque show that I've seen, but the first time seeing Verekai. We had the 60,000 won seats and were in the back row at the far right side of the stage. There are large pillars that support the lighting and the upper stage area (don't know what else to call it!) that sort of impeded our view. We ended up moving down about 5 rows from the front during the intermission with ZERO problems. This was a group of nine people moving down into seats that were quite obviously not ours in the first half.

No one said a word to us, and we enjoyed the second half much more being closer to the action and without anything obstructing our view :).

This was on a Friday night - I would guess that going on a weeknight would make it that much easier to move down to a better seat.

Enjoy!

"good enough" yes, but i'd say at least go for the 90,000 won tix. i went two weeks ago with my gf and let me just say i walked out feeling i would have paid more for the both of us; the show was THAT good. lol i was totally digging the comic relief. i haven't laughed out loud in a live performance like that in a long time. SPLURGE! and even if you're only getting paid TaLK wages, with the low cost of living in Korea, you can def still afford the higher end tickets without breaking the bank.

I went on the first night and paid 130k for the 2nd best seats but I agree the seats are all pretty good, the 220k, 120k are almost identical , 90k are fine but the 60k cheap seats perhaps not so great but upto you.

As for the performance?

Well if you have been to previous shows I think you will be very disappointed with this one......it was pretty average at best (trying to be kind here)  but I guess I had such high expectations having been to 2 of their other outstanding shows (ZED in Tokyo and the previous Cirque Du Soleil in Seoul 3 or 4 years ago, both of those were amazing)

This one had less theatrical/acrobatical tricks in comparison and was more arty/dancey. It started very slowly but improved after the break and the last part (final performance) was very good yes.....but I wouldn`t pay to see Varekai again put it that way (unlike their other shows).

For a first timer it might be quite good so if that`s the case, pay the extra 30k and get the 90k tickets at the minimum....but you have to go see the other shows...WAY better!

We're going this weekend! whoop whoop.
We paid 60,000 but apparently the seats are just as good as the expensive seats. The threatre is circular shaped so you can see the stage from anywhere.

I went in April and paid 90,000 and was second row at the side, which was totally fine because the stage is circular anyhow.

def true, BUT if you do sit off on the sides you miss the stuff going on in the back with your attention focused center stage. i really didn't notice there was anything going on until i turned my head. i'd recommend if you do get father seats, make sure you get seats that allow you to see all the way to the back of the stage, otherwise you're missing a substantial part of the performance.

It was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

We had the 90 000 won seats on the side. You look around so much, because everywhere you look something new and amazing is happening!
I would go see this again anyday! And probably pay even more!   ;D

I personally loved the show! Been to one other Cirque show in Chicago called Banana Speel and this was 10x better. More jaw dropping acts, better comedy, more colors, more going on. My friends and I bought our 60000won tickets online and went to the Sunday 2pm show. Our seats were way to the right which, like another poster said, involved a pillar being somewhat in the way. We moved inwards at intermission and no one said anything since everyone around us had the same idea. I didn't see much that was going on in the background but there was so much action that I didn't feel like I missed out. Wonderful show and I still think of the net performance from time to time b/c it was just that good. I don't think I would have paid more than I did but I would highly recommend it. Let me know how you like it!

Cirque du Soleil is worth any money to go see.  60 bucks is nothing for a circus.

honestly, i think that whatever tickets you buy you'll end up enjoying the show.
It was my first cirque de soleil and I am now a cirque de soleil believer.. puahaha.. I'm definitely going to try to go to as many as I can in the future..
My friends and I went with the 60,000 won tickets and when we purchased them, they were apparently the "last" 60,000won tickets, but when we got there, there were so many empty spots! Where did all those supposed "sold" tickets go?? At first, I worried about the poles that were taking away the view of the stage, but after about 15 minutes in, everyone in our section started to move more toward the center and closer to the stage, so within a few minutes we had some AMAZING seats!
People can argue that because it was smaller, it seems less spectacular than other cirque de soleil shows, but I appreciated that it was a smaller setting.

DEFINITELY make sure you watch it before it's over!
