How to Upload/Download Files
« on: September 20, 2006, 10:25:51 am »
I am going to develop a FAQ section for this site, in case people start having problems using the site, or are unaware of some of the features available.  Please ask your questions regarding features here.

Notice: You MUST be logged in to download or even see the little paperclip for attachments.

Firstly, I want to let you all know that you can upload files in your posts.  The way to do this is by clicking "Additional Options" when you reply to a post or create a new topic.  It should appear right above your "Post", "Preview", and "Spell Check" buttons when you're typing something in the forums.

Here is an example of an uploaded file, you should see it at the bottom of my post (normally the big arrow isn't there, it's for demonstration purposes only):

p.s.  You can also upload images, movies, ect...

I'm using Safari on a mac and the attachment appears as a paperclip icon on the very right of the post.

I've just noticed that you cannot upload many mac formats as attachments. Is there a special reason for this and/or a way you can change it to allow more formats? I would be surprised if no-one else is using a mac!

Thanks

Which formats? let me know and I'll add them ASAP to the attachment config.  I have a mac, but I guess I haven't uploaded much other than docs and ppt.

If you can let me know the extension types, for example .docx  , then I'll add accordingly.  The few type of extensions I won't allow are exe, or even zip.  Don't want to risk anyone getting a nasty virus.

The only type I would like to upload is .key
Of course you can open .ppt in Keynote but with the Jeopardy games especially there are compatibility issues.
Thanks

I've just added the .key extension to the attachment configuration.  If you can, I would export to ppt or let people know that the keynote you upload is only readable by apple's keynote program.

Thanks bleakronnie.

Hi!

Sorry if I'm being stupid, but I'm trying to download a file that's attached to one of the messages and when I click on the paperclip or on the message heading nothing happens.

I'm logged in, I'm using a mac....

Any ideas about what I'm doing wrong?!

Thanks!

Hi Webmaster

It seems to be ok on the PC I use at school which is good news! If it doesn't work on my mac at home again I'll contact you again to let you know.

Thanks!
