Teaching with Antonio Vivaldi-Grade 6-Chapter 3, I like Spring

(1/1)

ManiiRani:
Hello! I'm preparing a lesson plan for next week over the four seasons (Grade 6-Chapter 3- I Like Spring). I've already introduced the chapter to the class so now I can make fun, interesting activities. One of my ideas that I thought of was using classical music from Vivaldi. The kids are also learning how to say "I like..." and "I don't like..."  Vivaldi composed pieces of
music in one collection called ‘The Four Seasons.’ Each piece of music in that
collection represents a season. For example, one is called ‘Winter.’ The class
will listen to each of the four pieces of music for about 1 minute each. They
will pick a piece that they like the least and another that they like the most.
They will make sentences in their English notebooks such as, “I like Winter by
Vivaldi because..." The only problem I see with this lesson is that the students will have issues trying to explain why they like a certain piece of music. Any way of making this lesson easier for them?

Wow! This is a creative idea! To make it easier you should pre-teach some adjectives. I would teach some they will probably already know and some extras. You could even make worksheet with the Korean translations if your co-teacher will help you.  Then play the music and the students could choose which words describe the music/season.  Then write a sample sentence on the board and the students just fill in the blanks.

Example: I like Spring by Vivaldi because it is soft, light, and pretty.

I donno, something like that? I hope this gives you some ideas!

ManiiRani:
Thanks! That sounds like a good idea!
