Lindsay:
I'm planning on going to Myanmar during summer vacation. I was wondering has anyone on here travelled to that country before? From what I can gather it can take a long time to get from place to place by road so I'm not sure how long I would need to set aside for the trip (although I only have 2-2.5 weeks anyway). The main places I want to see while I'm there are Yangon, Mandalay, Bagan and Inle Lake. If anyone has any tips they'd be appreciated.

I was thinking of going there this summer but getting the visa seems like a bit of a hassle. I was just going to fly into bangkok and if I have enough time get one from the Bangkok embassy. I'd really love to see Began though looks like an amazing place.

I went to Yangon (Rangoon for five days for my winter vacation to see some friends who are now teaching there). It takes some time to get the visa and must do quite a bit to get an entry permit. Go to a travel agency and ask them what the procedure involves. I had to ship passport photos, my actual passport, 90,000 Won, and a fully planned travel schedule for my time in the country to the Myanmar embassy in Seoul.

Are we permitted to send our passports to an embassy?  Aren’t we required to show our passports to Korean officials on request?

No.

We have to be able to produce legal ID on request (same with Koreans).  The ARC serves that purpose.  If you don't have an ARC yet, then carry around your passport.
