Best Business English Textbook for Adult Learners?
« on: June 08, 2011, 07:39:54 pm »
I'm doing English lessons with a Korean friend in exchange for Korean lessons for me.. We'd both like our lessons to be structured by a textbook so we stop just fooling around and actually get some learning done!

Anyway, I need suggestions for an adult "Business English" textbook. His English grammar is excellent, he studied in high school but not much at University. I'd say he's high intermediate level. What he needs to focus on is listening, speaking, and comprehension. When speaking, it takes a long time for him to get his point across. Good Morning Pops is too hard for him.

A good conversation textbook for adults is what I need. Suggestions? Thank you!  ;D

At our company we use 'Market Leader'. Try the Upper intermediate level

It's a bit expensive and you might want to go the extra mile and get the teachers book as well if you can find it. This really makes planning the lessons a lot easier. I'd also recommend the CD ROM too. If you explain that this is one of the best around he/she might pay for it themselves. Can't find the teacher's book on What the Book's site but I'm sure you Korean friend could find them on a Korean book site.

Best of luck

I have used the Interchange series of books ( I think there are 4: Intro - Level 3) and they are all very good depending on the level required-- they're great for developing adult conversation skills.  Also, if you're interested in real BUSINESS English, I've used a book called BUSINESS LETTERS FOR BUSY PEOPLE- it is very concise and shows how to state the issue as quickly and clearly as possible-- this might be helpful for your student to organoze his thoughts in English.

Good Luck.
