The first PPT talks about baby animals - cat/kitten, dog/puppy, bird/chick, lion/cub, pig/piglet, cow/calf, human, baby

The 2nd PPT is for 3rd or 4th Period of this lesson.  It goes over I'm, You're, He's, She's, We're, and They're + the verb and -ing.  Then a few slides on "What are the kangaroos doing?"  Answer: "They're kissing."  At the bottom are a few slides on adjectives - big or small, short or tall, long or short.

Also, I just did 3 classes and we're having a lot of success playing Pictionary.  Split the class into 2 teams. One student from each comes to the board to draw. I write down a sentence such as, "The giraffe is dancing." and show it to the 2 students. The others raise their hand and guess the sentence.

Hey.  I'm attaching a PPT of some extra material for this (cheetahs and lions and the like).  I just got them playing SImon Says with the actions of the different animals.  Worked really well.

I reviewed the present progressive then played this great game and it was a hit!

Split the room into teams

give each team one piece of paper and tell them to choose a scribe

play any youtube video of Coyote and Roadrunner http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SqWGDi8plc

then tell them to watch and that when you push pause each team will need to come up with as many correct sentences as they can about what coyote or/and roadrunner are doing in the present progressive in 20 seconds
(ex: The coyote is chasing the roadrunner, The coyote is falling, The roadrunner is smiling, the coyote is opening his mouth")

They get a point for each one that is written with correct grammar (not spelling) and that is true of what happened in the clip.  So naturally this is a high scoring game which the kids love. In all my classes it came down to really close scores to choose a winner. We had so much fun and everyone was participating in some part.

I suppose these will be useful for next year's teachers (unless someone is seriously behind in their classes right now) :P
This is a powerpoint I did as a geography lesson for the kids, to show them where different animals come from in the world.
I used the cards from the back of the book, scanned them, and the copies are in the presentation.

I also used those photos as larger printouts to play a flyswatter game with the kids (it's pretty easy. you should be able to find instructions if you google "flyswatter esl", or the like).

Enjoy!

P.S. Here's a link to an album of all my animal illustrations I use for teaching. Perfect for little kids learning colors as well. Or else, simple, clear visuals as printouts. Use and share! ^^
