This topic went down really well this week. I used it with grade 3, we are covering a chapter named 'different people, different foods'. I Also used it with high school.

This is how I used the material

warm up - groups name as many foreign foods as they can, and the countries of origin.

Introduce unusual food; ask students about unusual foods in Korea, some answers were turtle soup, dog soup, snake soju.

Each group chooses one unusual Korean food to describe: what it’s made with, how , have they tried it, taste etc.... points for most in depth description

We then watch the clip (British reality show set in Australia), students watch/listen – answer

For the quiz we look at each food in turn and discuss. I give 1 clue to the country of origin and they complete the forms then each group hands me their final answers on one sheet at the end.

Discuss which they liked /hated most

Hey just used this lesson. It definitely gets a reaction from the kids. I had two co-teachers complain about the video so I decided to play a clip from "No Reservations". Anyway, thanks a lot for the fun lesson!

OMG lol the clip was so disgusting I almost vomited watching it. I'm sure the boys would love this class but the girls would probably just scream the entire time. Looks interesting though!

Yea, they scream, but it's fun. This lesson DEFINITELY keeps their attention.

You could also show the Bizarre Foods episode where they go to Seoul. The English will probably be over their heads, but the food will be familiar.

Also, I like the Eat Your Kimchi video with Korean streetfood. It has subtitles in English or Korean, but I think my students were curious to see the foreign perspective when it comes to Korean food (and it's all positive, so that helps

haha my girls started screaming during the video..so my co-teacher made me turn it off. but the boys seemed to enjoy it fairly well. the lesson itself went very smoothly though

I found some good videos on youtube I added to the lesson on youtube from BBC's cooking in the danger zone, they were entertaining, showed the food, but don't make you want to throw up

As a five - ten minute warmer to start the class, I used this bizarre food hidden picture puzzle game. Students try to guess the slowly-revealed pictures of unusual food from around the world, such as tarantulas, fried starfish, insects and frogs' legs. It should get the students' interest.

i was just wondering if the origins of the strange food list are correct?
i wanted to find more information on some of those strange food.
and what kind of clues were given to the students?

A similar lesson I did was with different variations of McDonalds food around the world and the different menu items. Student's seemed very interested and it was a good way to incorporate new food and cultures.

I did something similar but bought some cheap foods from the supermarket. Did a blind taste test with volunteers. students LOVED it!
