I like that this will be happening for some students and I hope it goes for all students in the future. I think students will feel better on a mental level. I think it seems like a reverse psychology technique. Students will be so excited that they have both Saturdays and Sundays off during the school year that they won't pay attention to losing four days of Summer and four days of winter vacation. I hope it has the positive effect of making the students less squirrely during the week knowing they don't have to go to school on Saturdays.

It won't make any difference and for kids with rich parents might make Saturdays much, much worse. It won't do a thing to change the fact that they still have to pass confusing tests in every subject to get into a decent uni, making childhood hell as always.

You know what? You're probably right. I have dealt with the rich spoiled kids and they will never be a good representative of what Korean children should be like. I guess I was trying to motivate myself positively and trying to convince myself that it is a good thing. Maybe I can use it on my other students and convince them they are getting a break.
