blocked websites at school

<< < (3/4) > >>

Paul:
My MOE graciously blocks Mediafire which is oh, yeah wonderful on those occasions when you wish to hit up the latest version of an actively maintained resource.

Mark: Big thankyou for introducing me to Diglet. I've tried other redirection services but haven't got them to even access Mediafire's homepage. I'm feeling lucky now!

Halcyon:
True, TOR is slower but it is free.  If you're only trying to access news sites or other largely text-based sites such as craigslist while at school then I definitely wouldn't recommend paying for any service.  If you spend a lot of time online at school and/or need access to these sites at school on a consistent basis then a VPN service probably is your best option.

As far as downloading Skype, here's the softpedia.com link:

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Office-tools/Fax-Telephony/Skype.shtml

If that doesn't work then just do a web search and you should be able to find at least one site you can download it from.

Canucktim:
globe and mail is blocked! also all downloading sites, isohunt used to be but not anymore, weird

siracha:
If you need to get on craigslist, don't type "craigslist.org" or "craigslist.com."

Type: The location first: XXXX.craigslist.org.

Example: vietnam.craigslist.org.

For London, England: london.craigslist.co.uk

For South Korea: seoul.craigslist.co.kr

From that homepage, you are are free to go to any other craigslist locations.

This has worked for me.

#basedcowboyshirt:
Sigh. My school's blocked hidemyass, diglet, and just about every other proxy server I've tried.
