Waygook.org ethics
« on: August 31, 2011, 01:52:10 PM »
Hi! I work without a computer in class and I know I can't be the only one. When I search for a topic, finding material is easy, but I have to wade through a lot of ppt/video/music themed lessons before I find stuff I can do in my classroom. It's kinda depressing.

While I'm wading through it all, I'd like to re-post what I find, obviously crediting the original poster as much as possible. I worry that if I just link to the original thread, whoever follows the link will have to wade through all the electronics-reliant lesson plans again, defeating the purpose.

So, is it okay for me to re-post material, clearly giving credit to the original poster? And if it's not possible, for moral or logistical reasons, does anyone have any advice on how to make a useful resource for those of us who can't just plug and play?

PS: I'm envisioning a new post for each topic I search for. Today I'm doing can/can't so I'd make a post titled "can/can't", and then in the post I'd copy and paste all the original posters' ideas with an added line to describe what (if any) attachments go with this idea.

For what it's worth, you can link to a post within a thread directly.  For instance, say I like this thread on games -- http://waygook.org/index.php/topic,4496.0.html ... If I only want people to look at a specific point, I can link just to that post -- http://waygook.org/index.php/topic,4496.msg25836.html#msg25836 .  I can do this by using the link provided at the top of the reply, just above "Reply #10" in this case.

As for whether re-posting things in the manner you describe is a good idea or not, I can't really say.  I think it's only warranted if you are providing a substantial amount of original material with each post.  Mods tend to merge topics anyway, so even if you give your topics a try you might just find them lumped together eventually.

What would be nice, I think, is a "No-Tech" section in the main master plan index with links to a variety of no-tech activities and lessons.  They're already out there in individual posts and threads, but a spot on the index would be sweet.
