I posted a box three weeks ago, Premium (light green form) by air,  8 or 9 kilos for 97,000 Won. It arrived within a week.
Last week I sent one also Premium by air of about six kilos and it was 80,000 won. They said it would take 14 days.

If you send it by sea/land it is much cheaper and it takes  2 more likely 3 months to arrive and be sure to waterproof your items.
I agree that you should value your items as low as possible. My parents have never had to pay to receive anything maybe because I keep the value low.

"Waterproof your items..." Thank you so much for the tip! Would not have thought to do that!

Are there any useful phrases for the post office? I went in unprepared with no Korean whatsoever and I didn't get anywhere.

I sent four boxes to SA and two from SA to Korea...cost me between 30 000 and 40 000 a box around 15 kg. Took 3 months to SA and 4mths to Korea...thay had to wait for a container to fill up. :-)

It depends on what you're wanting to do at the post office.

I was informed by SARS that parcels under R400.00 that are marked as gifts do not incur any customs duties and ad valorem tax. You are only allowed to send 2 gifts to the same person per calendar year to the value of R400 each. I got taxed nearly 55% after buying my parents gifts and wasn't aware of this rule because the value of the gifts came to over R800. My parents had to pay a hefty release fee in SA just to get their own gifts.

Keep the USD value to some random value between $50 and $55 to avoid suspicion if the value of the item is over R400. The SAPO will charge a nominal R12.00 release fee per parcel.

Also, if you've WORKED outside SA for longer than 6 months, your contents will be regarded as household goods and it does not occur any customs duties. There is however a release fee of R35 per box.

How can you show that you have worked here and that these are your 'household goods'?

Your passport has this proof since it has your departure and arrival dates for the countries stamped inside of it and, of course, it has your visa.

How do you show that you have been working overseas?

Seriously?  I answered this question in the above post and you've asked it again.  You have a work visa pasted into your passport and your passport has stamps for arrival and departure in different countries.  It's very simple!

I apologize for the double ask. School computer cuts out at times (especially with waygook), so didn't know it had posted. Thank you for the information, though.
