Music Camp (middle school)

Wow! This is great indeed! Thanks so much for the great powerpoints. I'm doing a winter camp for high school students and I need something on rhyming. I think this is perfect. We're gonna compose lyrics, and then compose a song. Finally, we'll record it and they'll burn it onto a CD for them to keep. Anyway, these days the students are getting a little bored because we've just been discussing youtube vids so far and playing other English games, so I think this should keep them interested. Thanks again!
Jimjam:
Thanks for these great plans and ideas, going to use these for after school lessons.

This looks like a very good idea. However, I'm a little confused about your process for the scavenger hunt. Can you explain that in more detail please?

How does the bingo work?

I did a one day 4 hour lesson on music. I started with handing out a worksheet, I let the girls work in pairs and made a little competition to see who could think of the most instruments without using the internet. I did the same thing with genres of music.
-Discussed different key terms for concerts (stage, tour, autograph, etc.)
-We went over the different instruments, showed pictures, and talked about which genre of music each instrument would be used in.
-Had the girls say out loud the different genres that they know of. Then went through some different types of genres to give them a chance to see what each one sounds like.
-Listened to Taylor Swift 'Mean' and had them do a fill in the blank for the lyrics of the song. Then discussed what the song was about.
-Had the girls make their own poster for when they were 'on tour'
-Had a small quiz to see if they could say the correct genre of music to the song that I played.
-Watched the Glee episode Theatrical.
My girls really loved this lesson and we didn't get to watch the entire episode of Glee. I think besides listening to the music they really enjoyed making their groups posters for their tour.
