Check out:  www.superteacherworksheets.com

The holiday section is pretty cool- they have worksheets with "hidden" pictures- you solve math equations, and depending on the answer, colour that section a certain colour.  It kept my after school kids busy for awhile- all grades- 3-6!  Some were faster than others.  So I also had them  make Christmas cards.  It can also work during class time too!  My kids brains shut off about two weeks ago and trying to get them to focus on the lessons is almost impossible!

Love your card ideas- they are beautiful!

Cheers

Elf yourself (and the other teachers)- THE KIDS LOVE IT!
« Reply #41 on: December 22, 2010, 10:47:43 AM »
So, I thought for something fun on our last lesson I would "Elf Myself" and the other 3rd grade teachers.

The kids LOVED it.  I've never seen them laugh so hard, and it's contagious! I've only shown them to one class and my face hurts from smiling.

It's easy and free... and even the BUSIEST class has time for a 2 min video.

If you click "click for more starring you videos" and there are other fun ones, better for older kids. My elementary liked the Christmas elf one the best.

When I did it,  I included Obama and Li Myung Bak since you can have 5, and there's only three of us...

Have fun!

I did this all week and my students fell over laughing. I used my iPhone and took shots of my students when they entered class. They had no idea what I was up to and then they saw the video.

They couldn't stop laughing! I even got one of my co-teach who wasn't too happy about it but the students LOVED it!

This was an awesome .ppt!  Thanks so much for posting.  I used it from 3rd grade through 6th grade, and even for teachers class.  Thanks again, great work.

Pop-up Christmas Tree Card
« Reply #45 on: December 24, 2010, 10:36:17 AM »
Got this from http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Christmas-Tree-Pop-up-Card-(Robert-Sabuda-Method).

I just put the template into a word document and placed the directions into a PowerPoint.

I'm using it with elementary 5th year students in class, but I'm sure it can be used with any level in class or camp.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas
« Reply #47 on: July 11, 2011, 12:36:18 PM »
Here is a basic powerpoint on the cartoon How the Grinch Stole Christmas. THe funny things about this is that the cartoon ended up being a big hit with my co-teacher. After talking about the film, and giving a little background on how I used to watch it as a kid, I showed the cartoon. Following the cartoon, I asked seme questions about it. Depending on the level, the students would either have to answer multiple choice questions, or questions in complete sentences.

Hey! I hope I can expalin this. It was a lot of trial and error for me to get this to work. First, Download Freemake Video Converter. (Gooogle it, and download the free software. Next, copy the URL from the video you want. (It's a link right below the video. And make sure it is the long URL.) Paste the URL on to the Freemake Video Converter. COnvert it to the appropriate formant...i.e. avi, wmv... I went through a couple until I found the correct format. Then embed it onto the ppt. I really hope this helps. I had to get on google to figure out how to put video in my ppt. But trust me, the hour trouble it takes you to learn how to do this yourself is worth it! I was able to do some really cool powerpoints for Halloween and Christmas because of this! :) Have a great semester!

Dr. Seuss is always a good choice.  I love using the book Horton Hears a Who as well.  The kids love studying the book and characters and themes.  Afterward I always let them watch the movie.  They love it.  :)

42 pages of Christmas materials. Flashcards, bingo sheets, categorize words, crosswords, etc.
Tell me and I'll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I'll understand.

Letter to Santa PPT
« Reply #53 on: November 17, 2011, 01:34:54 PM »
Since Christmas is coming I made this help explian the tradition of writing letters to Santa. I covered the "I want" key expression with some a/an practice tossed in. I also put in some stuff coving Santa's list, presents Vs coal and a simple template for writing a letter.

I also tried to use pictures that would appeal to students on all grade levels.  ;D

Christmas Top 5 - Jazzed Up Version
« Reply #54 on: November 25, 2011, 11:01:56 AM »
Hey All,

The Christmas Top 5 has been floating around for a few years thanks to EFL Classroom.  However, I recently jazzed it up a bit and made some more relevant and diverse questions for this upcoming season.  This particular version is Middle School Grade 2, but it obviously can be edited.

One Note:  I did away with the action button function for the actual top 5 and instead made them animations trigger by pressing the 'button'.  However, on the Christmas tree 'button", you have to press the top section of branches or else it doesn't work and just goes to the next slide.

Hope this is helpful.

Holly Jolly Christmas with Lyrics
« Reply #57 on: December 01, 2011, 07:28:25 PM »
Hello all!

For my elementary school's pop song, I made this video:

My supervisor wanted to sing this song, but couldn't find a video on YouTube with matching imagery, so I went ahead and made one for them.

Any of you are free to use it! ^^

A Smart Board Christmas
« Reply #59 on: December 02, 2011, 04:04:17 PM »
Here's a list of some Smart Board resources I hope to use over the holiday.

Description: Play Christmas songs by grabbing the reindeer's nose.
Idea: Have one student play the song while the others sing.
http://dingo.care2.com/cards/new/0422/Do-a-rain-deer.swf

Description: Make a snowflake with the scissors on the side.
Idea: Use it for motivation at the start of the class.
http://ww2.unime.it/dipart/i_fismed/wbt/mirror/ExplrSci/dswmedia/snwflak6-adv.htm
Another site with a similar idea: http://gwydir.demon.co.uk/jo/symmetry/snow.htm

Description: Make Rudolph
Idea: Have students say the part as they put it on Rudolph.
http://ngfl.northumberland.gov.uk/ict/mouseskills/christmas/rudolf.html

Description: Make a Snowman
Idea: Have students label the parts as you make the snowman. Two students just watched me playing around with this and couldn't stop laughing.

* There are so many games like this on google! I just chose this one. If you find a better one, let me know. Thanks!
Here's one more:
http://www.northcanton.sparcc.org/~ptk1nc/frosty2001/flash/buildsnowman.htm

Description: Make Santa's Path (So fun!) Use the marker to draw a snowy path for Santa. There is only a limited amount of snow. Try to get all the presents.
Idea: Use as motivation or as a reward for saying a key expression correctly, volunteering, etc.
