PLEASE HELP (a lesson on first aid)
« on: July 09, 2010, 02:21:56 pm »
PLEASE HELP....
LITERALLY.  ;)

THE STORY:

I was walking down the road today, and came upon  a scene that frightens me here in Korea: A lady was laying in the middle of the road, unconscious and all the passers by, were passing by or just standing around looking at her. This poor lady was lying on a VERY HOT bitumen (asphalt?) road, with no shade.

Even if you know nothing of first aid, common sense would suggest you give her some shad... and maybe check if she's breathing!  ???

This is not the first time I've noticed the extreme lack of First Aid knowledge in this country, and I'd like to TRY to do my bit to try to change that...

THE REQUEST

SO.... I'm going to try to make a lesson (set of lessons?) on simple first aid that even my middles school girls (and hopefully elementary kids) can learn. If anyone has any material, games, ideas or (constructive) thoughts that may help, PLEASE let me know. If I manage to put something comprehensive together, I'll post it here.

(If possible, I'd like to make a whole unit including road safety, fire safety etc.)

Thanks to all.

I think it is more of a cultural issue than a first aid knowledge issue. You might want to incorporate the cultural angle of looking after your fellow man into the lesson.  While I find Korea to be an extremely friendly place and people are always willing to help me, I often see examples such as you mentioned.

A lesson on road asafety should be made and sent to the [mod edit: ...] Korean police force. I am amazed at how dangerous the roads are here and the police do not seem to enforce the  road traffic law. [mod edit: ...]

What a great idea for a lesson! Have you thought about checking the St John's  website. They may give you some ideas or pictures for a powerpoint.
