Depending on where you apply, they want two copies.

Just some places are asking for two FBI checks and degrees. Depend on where you apply though.

Are there new rules this year for e2 visa?

As far as I know, once you submit a degree (or in this case, a photocopy of it) with an apostille that meets their requirements, you supposedly won't have to do it again, as long as you remain in Korea and transfer to a new job or renew your contract.

Here's another question for anyone: I keep hearing about how they have relaxed the new paperwork rules for people who are transferring their visas in 2011, as long as it is their first transfer since the time of the paperwork requirement change effective on Sept. 1st 2010. Some people who have transferred or renewed (in other words, they aren't newcomers to Korea) have posted that their immigration offices didn't require all of the new paperwork and won't do so until 2012.

Does anyone have any experiences to confirm this?

Yeah, I renewed my ARC a couple months ago and literally, I showed them my passport, my signed new contract, and my ARC card, the immigration guy put a little stamp on the back of my ARC, I paid $30 and that was it.  I went with a Korean co-teacher, which could explain the speed and ease of the process, but I wasn't asked for an Apostilled background check (though I got one) or a new Health/Drug check (though I got one of those too).  I have all the paperwork on file if Immigration asks for it later, which it very well might, but resigning with the same school seems pretty straightforward.  I'd still get all the paperwork newbies are required to have just in case though, my $0.02.

As for the age old question of original or copy, I'd say original. For me, it is way easier to just order one for $25 than to send the original and a photocopy to someone who lives in the same state I graduated in to get a notary and then get an apostille. If you have family in the same state, and they owe you something, like their firstborn, then it might be easier, but I think original is always better. I don't care what they say. A lot of recruiters are freaking out when people send their original because some schools refuse to provide more than a specific number of degrees, but mine being a state school in the US, there is no issue. I could order 100 and use them at toilet paper, and they wouldn't care, as long as I pay the fee.

One thing you might want to look into is a "Letter of Graduation/Completion" or for those at non-online schools, a "Letter of Enrollment." I did that my second year in Korea, because I couldn't get my physical degree fast enough, and Immigration had no problem. That was only $4 at the time, but $9 now. It is similar to a transcript, except it doesn't do a breakdown of the classes. It just says when you were enrolled and that you completed a degree in your major. You can get them apostilled, too. Slick as snot.

A friend in South Korea said "some" schools do require two now. I always thought it was just for immigration, but I think the school want a copy too. So 1 for the school and 1 for immigration. But I don't know why they just don't ask for a copy. It's the same thing.

There's a new rule that you need two apostilles now.

Not that I know of, but maybe.

What I do know is that a recruiter I tried to go through told me the same thing 2 years ago and lied through their teeth. They had two hagwon clients they wanted to trick me into going to.

For me, I only had to do one of each. 1 original CBC and one copy of the degree apostille. I ended up using www.apostillepros.com

Who in their right mind would get their actual diploma notarized and apostilled? Seriously. Mutilate your diploma for a job. No way.

Yeah those diplomas are not cheap either, some universities want $50 for 1 and it takes weeks to order.

I read somewhere probably decades ago, they did it on the original maybe that's why there's the confusion.
