Re: EPIK Renewal Bonus + Severence

Hi guys.

I just re-signed yesterday. My understanding was, like people have mentioned above, that I was to get the renewal bonus + severance. This is how I read what was stated in my contract.        My co-teacher was unsure so called someone at the MOE and that said no, you'd only one of them.

I'm unsure what to do now. I have told my co-teacher that many friends that have previously re-signed have received both. However, now he has the word of the person at the MOE.
Does anybody have an email address or somebody I could contact to clarify this?

Thanks :)

You're entitled to both.

Show them your contract (Article 10 for renewal and Article 13, clause 7 for severance). If you don't have your contract,  direct them to EPIK's web site: "Job Description" -> "Sample Contract."

Thanks for the replies guys. Yes, I have my contract and that's how I read it, that I'd get both. I am EPIK and have the standard contract.  My co was unsure so spoke to this person at the MOE who said they are the same thing. So I would only get one of them.  So my co thinks the case is closed. I need to contact someone at EPIK or MOE that can tell him otherwise. I've had a look on the EPIK website but can't find a contact. How do I find out who my EPIK coordinator is? I'm Gyeongsangnam-do. Thanks

Ecto is right, but in the event that your school refuses to give you the money while you're in Korea, it'll take about 14 business days to wire..

Hey there~
Soon I will finish my contract and leave Korea, after three years.
I have OT,Severance Pay,Security deposit and possible flight reimbursement that has to be paid.
What is the expected timeline for these things to be paid? Before I leave, a week after I leave? After I have begged and pleaded
and sold a kidney?
For those who have left, what was the wait time ?
Thank you !

I got this one gents!  8)  You can stay a couple days past your contract to get everything but the pension.  All other cash will generally be given on, before, or directly after contract.  You can negotiate how you recieve that with you school, but if you stay like 2 days past contract in a hotel close by, they can not say anything about it.  Be direct that you need the money now.  THe pension on the other hand takes time.   After you go to the pension office and give them proof of departure and your bank account info in your home country, you will see the money about a month after you arrive home.

This sounds pretty good, actually...I'm far from leaving (probably another 21 months), but it's something I've been wondering...thanks :)

Severance Delays
« Reply #107 on: July 04, 2011, 05:56:12 PM »
Has anyone got any information on how long a delay we can expect between completing our contracts and actually receiving our severance package? Anyone got any ideas on how to minimise any delays?

About 14 business days. If you want it sooner, you can ask your school to give it to you before you leave Korea. No guarantees, though.

I told them months ago what I needed, basically getting babble back from my co-t, usually means they're trying to screw me somehow. Gonna get a KEB account as well, get myself set up for international transfers. Thanks.

Badly Need end of contract pay.. WHEN?
« Reply #110 on: July 27, 2011, 01:06:43 AM »
hello,

i am an EPIK teacher working in Incheon, and my contract ends August 25th, 2011. i badly need my severance pay,
flight reimbursement, and apartment deposit back by either the 25th or morning of the 26th at the latest. is anyone in this same position?
i asked my school about this and they are saying it will be later. but i know some of you got yours immediately (all pay except the pension).
how do i do this? when i return on the 26th to my home country, i NEED that money for a new apartment deposit.
i will have no other place to stay and no one to borrow money from. anyone know how i can swing this?

thanks so much, very very nervous.
