All About the Weather Camp
« on: June 28, 2010, 05:55:51 PM »
Here are some things that I've put together so far for my 5th & 6th grade combined summer camp.  Somethings may be a little easy for them and some things may be a little too hard but I figured I'd send these out to you guys now so you can use them if needed.  There is also a PDF of the EBook that I've purchased. It's probably not good to put it on here, but oh well. Hopefully you can come up with some good things just off of this.  I'll post a lesson plan in the next couple of days.  Enjoy!

Okay, here's my unit plan for this.  Lots of fun art and games besides the worksheets.  Also, there is other worksheets that I've included which may be good for upper level students.  Next, is a list of a few youtube videos which show different weather conditions.  Then, there is a list of websites with online games which students can play in the event of a rainy day or extra time.  I'll attach the Let's Go Fly a Kite power point from someone on the Grade 5 Lesson 8 section so you can find it easily to access as well.

Here's the links to some of the songs...

The next three are links to the karaoke versions of the songs so your kids can sing the lyrics that go with the theme.

When I taught a Weather Unit for our English Center, I used the Kaboom game which the kids just loved - here is the link

http://www.eslcafe.com/idea/index.cgi?display:1089034968-23737.txt

I found 5th and 6th graders would get caught up in chanting "KA-BOOM, KA-BOOM, KA_BOOM" while the other team was working on their answers

we were learning two different weather patterns such as "Sunny and Warm" - the strips contained one of the words and the student had to say "It's sunny and warm"

hope this helps

Okay, so here are some more resources for this lesson which I've found today.  I'm not sure if I'll be using them but I'm sure they might be helpful for some of you.  Many of them are higher level (suitable for middle or high school) so if you were concerned that the others were too easy, these may be worth taking a look at.  But I believe there are some lower level ones, too.  Enjoy~!

For your more advanced students, here's a prezi I made for my MS1 science class. There are a lot of images, explanations, and videos with different kinds of weather. I'm sure it will be a crowd pleaser. http://prezi.com/jlahskzxztyq/grade-1-science-class-day-5/

Also, there are more things I've found to share...

Trailer for the Day After Tomorrow:

I will, ironically, be using this as a warm up.  ;)

Attached is the powerpoint I just made, where I highlight different kinds of weather and weather disaster.

Cheers for the songs. I'm planning on doing one song class for each grade. Always goes down well with the younger ones.

I'm planning on doing a weather unit and one day we're going to make weathervanes.  I'm hoping this won't be too difficult.

C is for cookie, that's good enough for me.
