I taught my class today about various landforms around the world. It went over pretty well. The PDF is of two things. First, writing practice (write the word as many times as you can fit on the line) and second, a word search. They all plowed through the writing and always seem to enjoy the word searches I make for them.

They all knew mountain, desert, island, and a few others, but didn't know the rest.

Vocab used: Canyon, coast, desert, earth, forest, hill, island, lake, marsh, mountain, ocean, peak, planet, plateau, river, tributary, valley, waterfall.

Beginner Class:elementary 1st and 2nd
I taught this today and it went over super well. It's a review of material that we've done earlier in the year. It's mostly weather, body parts, and emotions. Anyway, it was a very suitable level for them and they really enjoyed it.

Advanced Class: elementary 5th and 6th grade. Also okay for an Intermediate Classs: elementary 3rd and 4th graders.
This is ppt of various kinds of stores (grocery store, bookstore, pharmacy, etc). The PDF is has handwriting practice, a crossword puzzle, and two word searches. An intermediate level one and a more challenging one for the advanced class.

This ABC order game can be used for 2nd and 3rd grade after school students.

First, introduce all of the letters and have them repeat it twice.

This is what I have found most of my 3rd grade students can easily say A to P,

but afterr P, they don't remember what letter comes next.

Divide your class into either two or threes. Or have student raise their hand, if they know what comes next.
Don't have them shouting out the answers.

You can also pick a student who you does not know the alphabet very well.

Cheers, good luck,

Hi Everyone,

Here is another after school lesson that can be used in teaching the past tense.

Presently, I'm using Anne Murray's song "You Needed Me"

This song has lots of  irregular and ed verbs.

First, introduce these verbs and it's meaning to students (SS).

Then have them repeat each verbs several times.

I have underlined each verbs in the song, so that the SS will be able to identify them much more easily.
I think, it will be best to use this for those students, who are much more advance in English.

Here is the link    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrOdxw5CHX8

Please see the attached lyrics  of You Needed Me, with the underline verbs.

I just created a simple schedule of my after school classes this new semester.  There is one schedule for grade 3/4 and one for Grade 5/6.  It is not detailed, but it may help in terms of thinking of ideas for your after school class.  Hope it is useful for someone ^^

Work on Phonics. Use the beginnings of each of these words to practice those sounds. Then, play a slap game by putting all the word cards on the board. T says the word. Students run to slap the picture. The first person to slap the photo will win a point.

Make a picture movie with your kids!!!!

I cannot take credit for this. My boyfriend's co teacher at Namsam Elementary School translated it. It was a great activity for a fun class.

Here are the lyrics. Print them and cut them into slips for the students. Pass out the verses first, then the chorus, to make sure you have all the lines covered. Have them draw a picture that matches the lyrics. After they are finished, scan or take a photo of each drawing. Then, use something simple, such as Windows Movie Maker, to put it to the music. Get the song from iTunes or Pirate Bay.

An example of an end product is also attached. As you can tell, some students take it more seriously than others. :)

Practice Questions by reading these two stories and following the lesson plans. Students must create their own questions and answer the CCQ questions from each story.

I just finished a year teaching at the Seoul English Education Center in Gapyeong, and have a bunch of lesson plans, PPTs, games, etc. from that period for anyone who's interested -- i.e., people teaching at similar camps, or anyone looking for ideas for club classes. I'll start posting some stuff; if anyone else has things of a similar nature, feel free to add 'em here.

Here's PPT 1 I used for a Hospital-themed class. I would always add in the great Mr. Bean "hospital" episode as it's fun and relevant.

And here's PPT 2 for Hospital class. Has a nice body parts slideshow that can segue into an action-packed game of Simon Says!

I taught a Library class and this was the main PPT I used. Has vocabulary, dialogue, and a prompt for having the students write haiku. For more advanced kids.

Used this as an after school class withmy grade 6's last week. It was a bit too advanced for some of them but maybe for higher level students or to be played throughout the year as they improve.

My classes will be 40 minutes (with 20 3rd and 4th graders). I was asked to choose a textbook so I picked English Land (anyone else using this? I haven't found anything about it on here.)
They have a student book and an activity book, with LOTS of spaces for them to work in and I get the impression that their parents want to see the answers/activities filled in, which means I won't really have time to do my own stuff and will have to pretty much stick to the book. but maybe that wont be so bad, the book looks kind of fun and I suppose it'll cut down on planning.
Only problem is the books use lots of listening activities and we dont have the teachers CD! The teacher's book has scripts for each task so I might end up recording them and playing them (while trying to sound like an American probably ha).

So with the Simpsons one, did you relate that to peoples families? I tried to do that with my class, as my family has 5 members like the Simpsons, but the kids didn't seem that interested.

Has anyone just tried watching a film (like toy story) then having the kids do a report and role play on it in the next lesson. My teacher said it would be OK but I want to know if it would actually be any good.

Outburst game.

2 teams, have one student from each team sit with their backs to the board. Switch teams if one team is taking too long, or if a rule is broken.
