It was my intention to get this when my girlfriend and I moved to Korea. However, you need to get on this early and even then, I've never heard of any couple getting this.

You need to ask your school -- it's pretty much up to them -- but usually by the time you begin teaching, a lease for your apartment is already signed. Once the lease is signed, you have a very very very slim chance of them changing it.

BTW, I assumed you are in a couple situation and not on your own here. If you are on your own, I would not take the subsidy, because getting your own place is very difficult. Not only do many landlords not rent to foreigners but they require a very hefty deposit (key $ they call it).

Ask your school about it. I used to get paid it as a separate payment from my regular salary and it was paid on a different date.

yeah i also get this and the school used to pay it on the last day of the month until i asked them to include it with the salary. they were hesitant at first but they do now pay it on the same day as my salary.

you could always ask for it to be paid together, see what happens

If you asked to get the housing allowance before your school signed a lease for you, you should get 400,000 at the start of every month. Since your rent is most likely due on the 1st that is when they will deposit it into your account.  Your school pays you the money.  Hope this helps.

I get the subsidy from my school. It gets taxed with my salary, which sucks.  My school was very reluctant to do it though. They forgot to give it to me first pay. It was just an error because the person in the office who does payroll didn't know that I was supposed to get it. I had my extra $$ in a day.
