First I did a quick overview of "Would you like.." vs "Do you want..."  using the first PPT.  Then we played a virus game.. students ask each other "Would you like to.." and answer "Yes, I'd love to."  They fill in their card with their friend's name and 'mission phrase'.  After the students sit down, the teacher chooses 4 or 5 students as the virus (call out their mission phrase).  Any students who have the 'virus' students on their card lose the game.

The next class we had a huge open class and we put together this master PPT.  You can take it apart and use what you'd like.

Robots versus aliens game going over "Would you like...." and "Do you want..." It's a ridiculously huge file.  I tried to cut down the file size by eliminating Round 2.  I also made the 'point' pages a lot faster.  I felt like I was losing the students while we were waiting for the points to show up.

This lesson and lesson 16 are not favourites of mine. The next couple of months are going to be a struggle.    :(

Two very simple powerpoints. One for period 1 one for period 4.

The cards work great where they go around and interview each other using the targe language but the 'virus' part threw me.

I get that the virus is some sort of penalty.  However, I didn't understand the consequences of the game.

Also, couldn't you let the the students know who the virus students were by denoting that on the card template by simply writing 'VIRUS' on one of them.

Hey, don't know if this will be helpful for anyone but I made up a Team Quiz for Trashball on this topic. Students get to throw a ball in a trashcan if they get the question correct etc. Simple game but kids love it.

I am Pumpkin!=An Awesome Game ;D

All my students totally loved this game. It's a great game to get students talking and thinking up sentences all on their own.

Prior to game we talked about the expression "would you like to..." I introduced sentences that related to the stories in the book. For example "would you like to try this pie?" "would you like to come to my party?" and so on...

Also while the students are playing the game, I had a list of sentences written on the board that the students can start out with. It's especially good to have for the lower level students who don't know where to start when it comes time to making up their own sentences. As the game goes on, the students get more comfortable and start making their own sentences to ask. By the way make sure your example sentences are funny. The idea of the game is to make the "I am Pumpkin" person laugh.

how to Play

-In groups of 6 ( I did 6 groups of 6)
-In each group, one student is chosen to not smile he/she is "I am Pumpkin"
-The Other students in the group takes turns ask that student questions
       “Would you like to…?”
-The one student must always answer the questions by saying
“I am PUMPKIN” BUT he/she Cannot Smile
-If the student smiles while replying to the question, he/she looses and a new student becomes “I am Pumpkin.”
-Repeat
-If the group members can't get the student to smile, he/she is declared the winner. They can move on and give the other students a chance at being "I am Pumpkin."

-Leave time at the end of your class to have a final competition. Ask that the best "I am Pmpkin" student from each group come to the front. Then the entire class takes turns asking the top few students "Would you like to ..." questions. You will mostly likely go from 6 students to 2 or even one students left at the front.

-Students really get into this game. It's especially funny because you find out who has a crush on who who in the class. Because students will ask each other "would you like to date...?" and "would you like to marry..?" Pretty hilarious.

Made my own "trashball" game, the other one confused me. This is really straightforward because my kids are pretty low level. Also we have 7 teams so there are only 21 total questions for an even three each. Just a warning. Otherwise it rocks!!
Also a quick disappearing dialogue to take up a few minutes of this super dry lesson. Blah.

Thanks for all the great resources! I thought I would give back a little. Here's a bomb game I developed for the reading period of the lesson. Enjoy!

I modified the Simpsons game for this chapter. Let me know if you notice any problems or errors. ^^

Jille86 -

I love your Simpsons game and I would like to use it in my class, but I am having a problem. On some of the slides the rewards and animations appear before the answers. Since I am working with a Korean version of ppt, I'm unable to fix it. Could you point me in the right direction?

Thanks for sharing!

It's not my game, but I might can help. If you go to the slide you need to change, click on custom animations. In the small window to the right there will be all the items that have animation. On the slide, click on the item you want to appear later (oval, text, etc.,) that item should then be highlighted in the menu on the right. There are arrows at the bottom of the menu on the right to change the order. Just move the scoring items to the bottom and they will appear after everything else. Hope this does more help than harm.

This is a Thanksgiving ppt with some practice for the chapter. Some of it is from other presentations people put up. Thank you! The link is to a parade video, I just planned on playing the first minute or so.

This is a useful video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFbjfIYfSg0&feature=player_embedded#!

This video was taken down due to 'copyright infringement,' here is another site that has it that hasn't been taken down yet.  Be sure to use a program to download the file before it, too, gets taken down. http://www.spike.com/video/pink-panther-i-would/2691542
You can also get it from the MediaFire site (make sure you have GOM Player) => http://www.mediafire.com/?8mc9pb91j9e57nm

"Would you like to come to my house" Board Game
« Reply #38 on: November 18, 2010, 02:34:24 pm »
I've attached the .ppt and the board game sheets for the board game I play. What you need to do is print out enough of the .pdf files for the groups in the class. Each group will also need a dice, but this isn't your standard roll the dice and move ahead X number of spaces according to the dice. What students do is they roll the dice, and look at the ppt for the corresponding number in red which is associated with one of six sentences. Then a student must look on the board for the nearest space that has that sentence. So, for example, if you roll a 1, it's associated with the sentence "Would you like to come to my house?" You must then scan the board for the nearest "Would you like to come to my house?" space and put your game piece on it. This is mostly a reading game, but some students manage to incorporate speaking into it by preventing other players from advancing until they say the sentence out loud.
