Limewire down, so where do you download?
« on: July 26, 2011, 07:26:12 PM »
I know that limewire went down late last year. I tried frostwire shortly after limewire went down, and I just got a buggy computer after that. I haven't bothered downloading since. So where do you guys download your music?

Assuming you're talking about perfectly legal torrents that are legally available on the internet for your legal download, then I use kickasstorrents.com. Easily navigable and they seem to download a lot quicker than other sites.

I also like typing in the address.

For albums, I would assume torrents.

For individual songs, I just use a program that extracts the audio from YouTube videos. There are a ton of programs/websites that do this, but I use Freestudio Manager.

If you're unfamiliar with torrents they're way easy.

First google and download "bittorent" or "utorrent"

Then go to www.isohunt.com www.btjunkie.org or as someone else mentioned www.piratebay.org

Search for what you're looking for and voila. If you only want an individual song you can unclick the rest of the songs in a download if it's only a full album offered.

I honestly didn't think Limewire was still around!

Most albums are arranged with individual songs in a folder. Just select which ones you want in the torrent program of your choice and download. Audio from Youtube videos would be on the bottom on my list considering sound quality.  :-X

Soulseek has served me well for times when i can't find a specific track that i liked. This is another peer-to-peer network.

For what I do (look at the top 20 chart for songs), it's easier to just type the song in YouTube and extract the audio. Also, the program I use does allow you to choose a pretty high bitrate; however, I know the quality ultimately depends on the original source. So, you're right--if audio quality is vital to you, getting it from YouTube is probably not the best idea. That said, I suppose I have an untrained ear so I find it acceptable.

www.4shared.com has stuff sometimes

If you google a specific song and put "mp3" at the end you will get a lot of results (as stated 4shared for example) of places to download that mp3. For whole albums, I use piratebay or isohunt.

Another torrent capturer I prefer is Azureus.  You can always direct download onto your computer hard drive but these help you manage your files.

For torrents, I find most everything on BTJunkie, Demonoid, Isohunt or Pirate Bay as someone mentioned.

I didn't know people still used Limewire due to the spyware issues.

BT Junkie is better than 99% of other sites out there.

I wasn't aware that Limewire or Frostwire existed in 2011....crazy.

Anyways, yeah, torrents are the way to go. Or you can, you know....buy them legally. If a song's that good, it's worth the $1.

Torrentz.eu is a pretty good search engine for torrents. I usually use BT Junkie if it has the file.

4shared and mediafire are blocked on my school's internet. Is this the same for anyone else?

Like everyone else says, torrents are the way of the future. thepiratebay.org is a solid site for pretty much anything. If you're specifically looking for individual songs, just google the title and you should have no problems finding it. If you want movies and the sorts just go to icefilms and they should allow you to direct download from random media websites.

I wouldn't use torrents. I know a lot of people in this thread are suggesting some good torrent sites, but the odds of you getting a nice big fat bill from MAFIAA (Music And Film Industry Association of America) is higher than people assume it is. (I used to work in system administration at a university and had to deal/hear/read/go to meetings about that nonsense all the time).

Your best bet is direct downloads from sites like rapidshare/filesonic/megashare/etc.

Use filestube.com to search for your file, get an account at one of the download sites (filesonic is really popular), and download as much as you want for a month( or more depending) with no slow connections and no worries about getting your IP traced :).

Use something like Jdownloader as a file manager by the way, don't download each file 1by1, takes to long.

Is this a big issue here in Korea? In Canada some ISPs will send you cease and desist letters if they catch your unnatural usage, but man, with the internet speeds here...
