Posting Canvas painting - PLEASE HELP
« on: July 27, 2011, 09:00:31 PM »
Just wanted to know if anyone has posted a canvas painting home before? Or if anyone knows how this can be done...
I have a canvas thing to post which is about 45cm x 40 cm with a wood backing so it can't be rolled up... HOW CAN I SEND THIS THING HOME???

I have never sent a canvas home  BUT I beleive most post offices will have a section that allows you to wrap it up to send it home.  I recently sent a suitcase home that had bubble wrap and stuff to wrap it up.  Worth a shot checking out!

Good luck!  Keep us posted!

Yeah I'd like to know about this too.  Need to get some of my paintings to friends back home.  I was thinking of removing the canvas and re-framing when I get there.

Will need something more reliable as I cant be travelling all the way home whenever anyone wants a painting.

So I went to the post office with the canvas wrapped up in bubble wrap and some news paper and as soon as I walked in they looked at the package and then at me with a confused how-the-hell-can-we-send-this look.
I asked them for a box to put it in but they only had the usual boxes they sell and none would be big enough for the canvas but one of the guys in the background came up with a genius way to box it... ask your post office to do this when you send things like this...
he cut the sides of the box so it was a sheet of cardboard and wrapped the canvas with the cardboard sheet, slighting cutting parts of the sheet to create a perfect box shape... some of the edges were bare so small bits of cardboard were filled in and the thing was taped up! so much so that I think not even air would get it... but its done and they were fine with it
They really seemed to like the idea and im sure they'll be doing it again...

I'm curious about how you sent your suitcase though? did they not need you to send it in a box? how much did it cost?

i just sent the suitcase as is. Wrapped in about 2 pounds of bubble wrap. No box needed.  Took 5 weeks to arrive to my home in Nicaragua. Nothing missing and no damage to the case.  I was impressed!
