Help out this filthy, rotten liar!
« on: August 04, 2011, 01:31:37 PM »
Sorry to spam... was just hoping for some advice!

So, I'm leaving on vacay tomorrow... I booked the ticket ages ago. I booked my return flight back for August 22- the flight was much cheaper! It's a Monday, and I don't have a vacation day that day, but I figured it would be a desk-warming day, I could call in sick.. no biggie.

But school starts on that day! Now I'm not sure what to do. My contract is up 5 September and I have been a goodie-two shoes up to now (never taken a sick day, never been late, always have done what's asked of me).

Sooo... I will be on a flight home when I should be at school. My bad.

Do I.........

1. Call in sick from Bali?
2. Say my flight changed?
3. Tell me coteacher my situation beforehand? (I'm worried this may place her in a difficult position)
4. Any other suggestions?

Damn school bureaucracy that I must now feel like a criminal and make myself a filthy liar- if I was back home, I would definitely just be honest and be cut some slack!

Do you have a good relationship with your CT and school? CT especially- she may cover for you. I would (personally) explain to my CT the whole ticket booking thing, apologize like mad, and ask to use a sick day (or even as an unpaid day). But my CTs and I are on pretty good Korean (give and take) terms.

However, when it comes down to it, I'm not buying a new flight just cause things buggered up. The school will not explode if you miss the first day of classes, I don't care what anyone thinks about saving face. If you're doing a good job with classes and have a good repertoire with everyone, then here's your blunder.

That's a difficult question
Ask (officially on paper) and you might be denied and then they will know you will be lying when you don't turn up
As SBraken suggested if you have a good relationship with your CT you could mention it to her and she would more than likely cover for you, some sort of gift from Bali would help :)
Maybe she could say that you ate 'something bad' in Indonesia as the food there is not as healthy as Korean food and they don't even have Kimchi
Have a nice time in Bali :)
