Hampyeong or Boseong?
« on: September 14, 2010, 10:56:24 am »
Hi there,

I'm new here.... I have been offered a position to teach at either Hampyeong or Beseong, and I'm having a bit of difficulty determining which one to choose, as it's hard to get information on either town. I could really do with some advice before making the big decision.

What would you guys recommend as the better town to live in?

Thanks a lot!

Both are pretty small cities, but if I personally had to choose I would go with Hampyeong. It's only a 30 minute bus ride away from Gwangju (5th? largest city in SK) and the town is super easy to navigate. I know quite a few people that live there and are quite happy with their town.

I taught in Hampyeong last year and had a great experience!! So if I had to choose again I would say Hampyeong. Yes, it is a small town as is Boseong but atleast u are closer to Gwangju and Mokpo.  I guess you would replace my friend who works there at the moment..

I am currently in Hamypyeong and, while it is a small town, it is wonderful. And a very short jaunt away from Gwangju.

And we have a bowring alley!

. . . Have never been to Boseong, to be sure.

Hey, I currently work in Boseong so hopefully I can offer some insight.

About the town - it is beautiful, but it is small. I've never been to Hampyeong but I hear they are similar. It's a little over an hour to get to Gwangju from here. You can also get to Suncheon in an hour and Yeosu in an hour and a half. As a plus, you can get down to a nice beach village, Yulpo, in about 10 minutes by bus. Everywhere is walkable, and there are many stores but there are definitely some things you can't get. There are currently 7 English teachers here. I'd be happy to answer any more questions if you've got them.

At which school is the position being offered?

wow, thanks for all the responses.

a lot more than i got from dave's esl cafe!

in regards to where I'd be teaching -- not sure, but it's supposed to be an elementary school in both.

question -- can anyone tell me if there is a gym in either hampyeong or boseong?

i am leaning towards hampyeong...but boseong does look very beautiful! of course, when staying for a year other considerations probably become more prominent.
