I'm ashamed to say my Japanese is better then my Korean. I think it's all about motivation. For various reasons, i don't have any to learn Korean. It would be very useful to me living here but it's just not there. My Japanese is basic, but decent. I can read, have basic conversations, but i do study several hours a week. I even had a private Japanese tutor. I can read Korean alright and i knew a few sentences from my class that i was taking at GNUCR but I had trouble with people understanding me, dismissing my attempts and looking at my Korean girlfriend/friends to see what i want, or just dismissing me altogether. Kinda a bummer. I do remember ordering food at the costco line a few months back and the guy said in perfect English "so you want a smoothie and a cheese pizza?" :/
