Great.. This guy is a total jerk and makes all foreigners look bad. I'm American and when I see stuff like this it just makes me so angry. I'm assuming he is American.. I really hope he is not a teacher.

Would I have gotten the crap beat out of me ....yes. But I would have tried to stop him.  I do not think that I have ever been so disgusted by anything as much as this.

Oh my word! This is DISGUSTING behavior! I can't believe it! I feel sorry for the poor people on that bus who got to witness the violence of one foreigner, who ruins the reputation of all foreigners in South Korea because of his actions.  This makes me very sad.  :( :-[ :'(

R. Koehler suggests there is something we can all learn from this incident. I'll admit my ears aren't sharp enough to pick up what was being said, but this does explain (but naturally, not justify) some of what occurred:

In a nutshell I suppose the guy was asked by a Korean to be quiet as he was talking very loudly. The older guy spoke to him disrespectfully and then the foreigner misunderstood the Korean and thought he'd called him the n-bomb when he said ne-gah. I'm quite appalled by this behaviour.

According to the news report, the black man was talking loudly on bus. So for the comfort of all passengers, the middle aged Korean man told the black man to shut up. The gangsta-wannabe then obviously flipped the *beep* out. What made the black man angry was the phrase "Ne gah yeogi anja" (You, sit over here) and the black guy understood ne gah as nigga...

What a jerk!  Zero tolerance for accents - he seems to have immediately jumped to conclusions about what was being said and, consequently, made the situation far, far worse.

This literally makes me sick to my stomach. I will acknowledge that some days this country just gets to you and things bubble up, but that's absolutely no excuse for this behavior.
