Thanks for this post - and more importantly, making it a sticky post.

I finally got online banking set up. From the get-go, with my Korean co-teacher there, it was clear I wanted to transfer money to my US or my parents' US bank account. I thought, "surely, this will be easier than I had foreseen. I have a Korean. They're speaking Korean. They know what I need and know what I must do to achieve it."
Wrong.

But luckily, I double checked this post and see that I need to register with that same #@$%#$ bank branch I was at to register myself to complete the international remittance. Lord have mercy.

Anyway, I do mean to express my gratitude for such an easy FAQ about such a seemingly simple matter. I'll stop my bitching here. Again, I thank you with utmost sincerity.

Can someone please tell me what the maximum amount you can send home at one time is? My bank charges a significant fee to receive a transfer, so I've been waiting and now it won't let me send a large amount. I'm pretty sure at the ATM its 600,000 won, but I thought online was more. Any specific info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

What bank do you have in korea? Nh usually doesn't care how much you send home however some banks here have rules that you can only send 60-80 percent of your income home.

Sorry, my question was for how much you can send home at a time. It's supposed to be $10,000, but that wasn't working. I just got back from the bank and found that you can only send 10,000,000 WON at a time. So if you're like me and trying to do the least amount of transactions, you'll have to find out the rate to figure out how much you can send in dollars.  At the counter you can send $10,000, fees are a little higher, but the rate is better.

I had to declare to NH the daily limit for online money transfers. Surely they asked you the same thing when signing up for online banking, right?

Thank you so much for this posting! Despite the fact that it seems impossible for the initial set-up of the online international remittance to go off without a hitch, I was really pleasantly surprised at how helpful everyone was despite the complete language barrier at my local branch in my tiny city. That said, I won't be able to check if everything worked until I'm back at school tomorrow in front of a computer that has Internet Explorer (can't quite get over that fact...). Fingers are crossed!

They told me nothing about the daily limit until now - and I had to practically beg for it. Such is life...

I keep getting a message that the service is temporarily unavailable. Does anyone have this problem? I have been trying this forever and still have no luck Thanks for instructions though.

I went to the NH bank by myself in my town it was extremely complicated and difficuilt to send money back to my bank in Australia. I would recommend taking a korean with you, just to speed up the process.

This is great info...I used NH in 2008 and had to take the cash out in order for them to wire it home.  I really hope I can get online overseas remittance!  Now if I could just get my co-teacher to realise the urgency of getting my ARC!

On reading through this post, maybe online transactions aren't the easiest route.  When wiring money last time, I took my Korean friend with me, took the money out of the ATM, went to the desk, and they took care of it.  Only downside, not all branches do overseas transfers.  My local bank was too small, but we only had to drive 5 minutes to get to one that would.  I'm again in a small village, so I hope they'll do the transfer.  But if an NH near you does overseas transfers, it's less headache to physically wire it home, but you still need all the info.

I have a NH account and set up my internet banking. However, is it really expensive to send money home (South Africa) with them? I keep hearing I should open a KEB one account. Is this a better option?

Does anyone know how to install the internet security software needed before you can log into NH internet banking? A page opens when I click on internet banking and it tells me to install Active. However, when Install this it just keeps going back to the same page and telling me to install active X again. Any help would be much appreciated!!

I went to an NH and they set up my online account for me and said that I can send money anywhere in the world. I didn't need any of the bank details from my home bank. They said you must just go to the "global banking" tab at the top right corner of the website when you sign in after you have registered and it should work! I haven't needed it yet but it seems a bit less complicated. Take a korean translator with you. I took a co-teacher and she did all the talking.
