Teaching multiple levels
« on: August 29, 2011, 07:25:34 pm »
Hello, I’m having a little trouble and I hope to gather some insight from other posters. I teach at a public elementary school and most of my students are very low level. Due to this, the majority of my lessons are catered to them. I have a few high level students who I feel are not challenged enough. I give the advanced students extra worksheets and vocabulary words, but I would like to supplement this. If other posters would share what they do with their high level students it would be much appreciated.

I am in a similar situation where some students are definitely more advanced than their peers, so they get bored easily and start to cause trouble.  I love doing games, but it is difficult to level the playing field sometimes.  I would like help on how to keep the different levels all engaged simultaneously.. Please help!

Does your school have an English Zone. If they do you should teach the majority of your lessons there. The reason I have mentioned this is that when you are in the zone the students leave their regular homeroom classes and join classes where they are more streamlined. If your school has a zone and either they are not doing this or they have a zone and they don't let you use it. Have a talk with first your Co-teacher. Then your department head. Then your Principal. Finally one of the local Kypo Coordinators.
