Does anyone know any good Ice Breaker games?
Kim Yuran:
I'd like to introduce one that I know...
It's like guessing who game.. First, let students write their profile in small papers..
then teacher collects them..
Teacher picks a paper and reads about the student's hobby, favorites, and so on.. except her name
Then, other students make a guess who would that be ..
It's fun to do! :D

I heard the bingo game is a good one. Haven't personally used it yet though.
The basis is that you write a lot of different things like "has 3 brothers" or "likes to read" and get the students to find people who has these and write their names down on it until they form a single line or two lines in the same direction to make it a little longer.
It works well for the students to meet each other. And they can even ask the teacher.

It's not exactly a game but I heard this from another teacher. They made a powerpoint about themselves but only used pictures instead of words and then had the students tell him what they pictures meant about his life. That way it had the students already talking in English and getting them engaged and it introduced the teacher without the students getting bored.

A really fun one I like to do is called "Zip! Zap! Zop!"
It's kind of similar to a Korean game called Gong Gong Chill - or 007.
It can't really be done with a huge classroom full of kids but it's good for Camps when you've got fewer numbers.
Get everybody in a circle. The first person claps, stomps, looks into the eyes of and points at somebody all together while yelling "ZIP!"
That person will then turn to another (or back at the person who did it) and do the same while yelling "ZAP!"
That person will then do the same while yelling "ZOP!"
Lather, rinse, repeat. Someone leaves the circle if they make a mistake. The teacher has to judge who made the mistake sometimes, if the student said the wrong Z-word or if they were looking one way while pointing another way and so on. Encourage them to be loud and fast and they'll pick it up pretty quick and have some fun with it.

For an introduction to elementary students, I used a powerpoint about myself. It worked well with the grade 4 students, who had some grasp on the meanings, but with the grade 2, they just repeated everything I said. Also I was left alone in that class so I did not have a co-teacher to help explain.
