Visa voided because of no ARC?
« on: October 10, 2011, 04:44:38 PM »

Hi guys,

I hope there is someone here who can help me with this query. My friend had to go home on Sunday morning on emergency leave. There was no other option. She had just started her second job here in Seoul (maybe 4 weeks in) when she got the call. Recently, she completed her visa run to Japan but is awaiting her new ARC.

She was told in Incheon Aiport yesterday that since she didn't have an ARC yet, her employment visa has been terminated. Does anyone know if this is possible? It seems very harsh. From what I gather, she would like to return to Korea.

I think it was check-in, and not Poassport COntrol, who said this to her.

Does anyone have any knowledge or experience of this? All help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

She shouldn't need a new ARC - just a change of visa sponsor - in which case there shouldn't be any need for a long wait.  Her best bet will be to contact immigration and check with them.

Thanks sasez,

What if she wants to go back to the same employer though? Same job?

If she left the country without getting her existing ARC and visa extended, she's probably going to have to re-apply for a visa and start from scratch.  It takes 20 minutes to renew the ARC and visa and the first question they usually ask - at least in my town's office - is whether any off your contract details changed.  She definitely needs to contact immigration and check with them.
