Can anybody recommend some decent teaching books?
« on: October 11, 2010, 12:36:42 pm »
Hi, I've been teaching for about a month in Korea and one of my schools follows a text book but the other does not (at least not one they want me to get a look at, despite me having asked multiple times.) And this school is rather behind my other school so just using the same lessons for both schools isn't good enough.

I also need something to prep English conversation classes with, as the internet and my own ideas are now running thin; the kids are lovely but they don't have anything like the amount of English they need to actually converse; but my head teacher is stubborn on this point.

So can somebody with some experience recommend some good guides or text books for Middle school English, ideally ranging from grades 1-3? I need something to use as a logical guideline and to supplement my own ideas with new games.

Cheers!

I don't teach middle school, so I am not familiar with books for that level.  I do, however, have files for an after-school English program formerly run in some Seoul districts.  I can't find the beginner files just now (assuming I even have them), but here are the intermediate and advanced books.  These are for middle school.

If you want the beginner files, I'll dig for them.

Thank you teacher_del for these lessons. I'm a middle school teacher that teaches 8 hours of after school coversation classes per week (4hrs with one set of kids, 4hrs with another) and these leesons have some good ideas. My school said I could have the students buy a book, but we must finish the entire book! As easy as that would be.......I don't want this to be another class that they/I dread! I create (mainly find, then change) 4 hours of afterschool material per week and may use some of these activities. Unfortunately, after 7 months it is getting harder and harder to come up with NEW fun, creative, and interesting ideas and activities!

If you (teacher_del) have the beginner files that would be greatly appreciated!

Anyone else with any great after school converation/speaking activities that would like to share please do so! The funner the better!

Thanks for these teaching books teacher_del. I'm also at a middle school and aren't allowed to use the textbooks. This is my 2nd month of teaching and at times I really don't know what to do. My students' level is extremely low, would you mind posting the beginner level books? It would be much appreciated!

A third thank you!  Those teaching books will really come in handy.  I like the superstition one for teaching If/Then statements :)

My coteacher gave me the New Cutting Edge series from Pearson Longman. It is great. Fifteen modules, each with about 8 hours of class materials. TONS of material.
