Martial arts question
« on: September 11, 2011, 06:28:25 PM »
Hi my name is Nick and I am going for my 5 posts and instead of posting a random message and moving on I thought I would pose a somewhat serious question on Korean culture.

It is about Korean martial arts, more specifically Taekwondo, Korea's national sport.  I know it was developed from the older martial art taekyyun, which has been practiced in Korea for centuries.  My questions involves the border shared by Manchuria and Goryeo dynasty; they were next to each other and Manchurian martial arts closely resemble taekyyun and ssierum.  Then I remember how karate was created by combining southern Chinese martial arts with traditional Okinawan fighting styles.  Did taekkyun have a similar origin with Chinese influence pouring over from Manchuria to create the art, or instead was it Korean influence coming to China to create the Manchurian martial art?  I don't know but am curious.

Anyone know the answer?
