Ulsan Korean Study Class
« on: October 19, 2010, 09:11:17 am »
I am thinking about starting up a study class or session every week and I am looking at getting people together to study Korean and have some basic conversations.
So I am just wondering if anyone in Ulsan would be interested and what times are good for you. I am thinking of having it at "Is Coffee" in samsandong to start off with because those guys are cool and they probably need the business during the week.
If you have time, I am going to shoot for this wednesday around 7 pm at Is coffee to have a meeting. Please pass this along to anyone that you think would be interested, regardless of their level of Korean.

Also, if anyone reading this has some effective ways to utilize materials and whatnot that would be great too. Any ideas on how to run a class like this would be greatly appreciated.

Basically, the class will be a free study time with a mix of levels. member can study together with people of similar ability or get help from more advanced members. it will be completely open so that we can pick our own materials and assignments.

Any ideas?

Hey, I live in Guyong and I was literally just thinking about starting my own Korean study group. I work till six thirty everynight so I can never go to any classes. This sounds awesome. Hopefully I'll see you there!

Excellent! I will see you there. I talked to the guys at IS Coffee and they are excited too. If you are not sure of the location here is a link to my article on Ulsan Online.

I'm really interested. It's sad that Ulsan MOE has kind of failed us in the language department but a study group would be perfect.

I'm not sure if I have any ideas off the top of my head to help us with materials and such, but it might be useful if everyone interested could come to the meeting with an idea of some language points they want to learn.

Thanks for organizing this! I know a few others who would be interested so I'll pass the word along.

Laura those are my thoughts exactly. I really want this to be an open study time. I think even the staff of the coffee shop are willing to help too. So the more ideas that we have bouncing around the better it will be!! Hope to see you there!

Hi
I am really interested in this, I work until 6.30 every night too for my seodang - I cant make this week, would it be ok if I could meet you guys next Wednesday? I hardly know any Korean though, just to forewarn you!
Wicked idea though - would be really helpful to learn a bit more...I have just moved here, been here just over 2 months now.
See you guys soon!

Is there anyone who would want to meet on a Tuesday or Thursday? It's a fantastic idea, but Wednesdays, unfortunately, are bad for me.

Thanks for everyone that came out last night!
Here is what we came up with for the class.

New time: 8 pm
Location: ITs Coffee (same as before)
Style: Open study style. The class is about half intermediate and half beginner. So everyone is going to study together and bounce ideas and questions off each other. Higher level people will help the beginners.

Thanks to all those who came out and I will see you again next week!

there is also a study group for those with more than beginner Korean needs. That group meets on Saturday at noon in Ulsan's daldong area.

Yup the class is up and running and will meeting every wednesday at 8 pm.
IS Coffee is located just down the street from the McDonald's and across the street from Kebapistan. So just walk from McD's into the new walking area and you'll find it easily.

Marty, I don't see the posting there. This group is for all levels as well. Currently we have more intermediate speakers and a few beginners. It looks like a great group of people.

AWESOME! I've been looking for something like this. I'm a newbie to Korea but definitely loving learning the language so far.

Can someone maybe make an event link on FB or something? Is it going ahead this Wednesday too?

And oh, hey to Laura + Tamsin!

I'll try to risk the busses to get there tonight. Not exactly sure where Samsan Dong is, despite having been there once. I am in the Ilsan area, so I think 1401 goes there.

Basically if you take any bus that goes to Hyundai Department Store (samsan-dong area) it will get you there. Then just walk behind The department store to find the McDonalds, turn right and walk 50 meters and you'll see the cafe.
