Temple Architecture and Artwork
« on: September 18, 2011, 03:16:43 pm »
Ever wondered what some of the architecture or artwork at a Korean temple was trying to impart? Check out my blog and you'll find out some interesting answers, like who those four individuals are that rest in the second gate of a temple or what the ox-herding paintings are suppose to represent.

Check it out here: http://daleskoreantempleadventures.blogspot.com/p/temple-architecture-and-artwork.html

Thank you for the compliment. I hope it helps explain a few of the features around Korean temples.

I've added yet another article about the architecture at  Korean temple. This time I added the hall that houses Amita-bul (The Buddha of Infinite Light and the Western Paradise). Check it out!

Nice man.

Which are your favorite mountain / temple days out in Korea?

I'd have to go with Beomosa in Busan as the natural scenery is just stunning.

Mal-san in Cheolla-nam do just becasue the temple there is the prettiest thing I have ever seen in Korea.

And of course no time in Korea is complete without having experienced Bulguksa and the Seokorham in Gyeongju.

I've just put up my most recent posting about the meaning of a Korean temple hall. Check out my most recent about the Gwaneum-jeon Hall: The Bodhisattva of Compassion.

Very well done. Just make sure to get (or lie that you did and say it on your site) permission from the monks before taking pics of a buddha's head *inside* a temple.

So many monks have actually invited me in to take pictures of the hall. They're pretty happy to show off their temples. I remember one old monk at Anyangam Hermitage near Tongdosa called me over to show me inside one of the ancient halls to photograph the beautiful paintings inside.

I've posted another entry at the blog in the series about Korean temple architecture and artwork. This one is about the Judgment Hall that honours the dead, which is called the Myeongbu-jeon Hall.

Check it out for some amazing paintings and information!

Most people think of Chilseong as nothing more than a cider that you can drink. However, in Korean Buddhism, Chilseong (The Seven Stars) is an integral part of this religion.

So for more about this shaman god, check out the blog.
