St. Patrick's Day
« on: March 15, 2007, 02:01:55 pm »
So, I just put this powerpoint together quickly today to go with the JLP lesson plan about St. Patricks day.  You're welcome to use it or change it.  I'll use it as an intro and then do the quiz that is in the JLP book.   Give out green stuff as prizes.
Hope it helps!
just so you know, i am still pretty lame at powerpoint :-\...but the kids seem to be pretty impressed.

New addition:  I'be included a worksheet logic puzzle that is pretty easy to do.  suits the korean student's mind excellently.  Takes less than 5 mins with my gr. 1s and their eng is not so good.

St. Patrick's Day

I teach a 90 minute Talent Class in elementary school. Being Irish and with the week that's in it I couldn't help but take the opportunity to teach them a little about St. Patrick's Day. For this lesson after the power point I am getting them to write newspaper articles as their assignment but for those who just need a time filler this might be handy it has a couple of video clips that will hopefully keep them entertained.

Thanks very much Sarah. This is an excellent powerpoint. I made one last year but this one is much better. You said you use it with elementary school students but I will use it as a 2o minute culture section with my High School students. Have a great Paddys Day on saturday.

I cannot even explain to you how thankful I am for this lesson! My KT just waltzed in to tell me that I have an extra class and this is the perfect filler lesson. Thank you!

Here's a St. Patty's Day themed game.

Right now it looks at countries and nationalities (Middle School 1), but you can alter the content as you like. When the ppt is running is running, click on one of the clovers to bring you to a slide. Click on the slide to see the gold coins awarded. click on the rainbow to return to the clover slide. I play this with my class divided into two or three teams and have them compete for coins. The team that gets the most coins wins. also, the team that answers the question correctly gets to chose the next clover. Hope your kids enjoy it :).

@NinaM If you just play the PPT as a presentation the videos should just automatically come up on the screen instead of the big white boxes then you just hit play. If that doesn't work let me know and I'll send you the video links for youtube

thank you so much for the great lessons.  Really.
But please, please, please, oh my god, please stop calling it Patty's Day.  It already has an abbreviation- Paddy!  As we often call men called Patrick.  We would never call them Patty.
Please, for the love of god stop doing this!  Here is an educational link.  http://paddynotpatty.com/
I hope you don't take this the wrong way, I love that people are interested in our culture but it just sounds stupid!
