Archery!
« on: October 20, 2010, 08:39:57 pm »
Hello,

I have heard rumors that Suncheon has an archery club. Does anyone know if this is true or if that there are others somewhere else in Jeollranam-do?

I don't know specifically, but archery can be found in most cities in Korea, and many smaller towns as well. However, it's not exactly like western archery, as they use more traditional style bows. They way they train is almost like a martial arts, with breathing technic's taught.
If you find an archery range, just rock up and show an interest. They are usually very friendly folks who like to show off their sport.

Here's a link on Wiki:

Hope that helps.

Just had a quick squiz at Daum maps:

http://local.daum.net/map/index.jsp?urlX=613222&urlY=404846&urlLevel=1&map_type=TYPE_SKYVIEW&map_hybrid=true&q=%BC%F8%C3%B5%B1%C3+%BC%FA

From Bus terminal, head towards the river, cross the bridge, cross the railway line, and where the road immediately swings around to the right, turn left. Head straight up the hill towards the trees (and I think a big church?). It's nestled in at the edge of the tree line.

Have fun.
^^

Thanks for that! Well looking at the map it seems to be the Korean style. So looks like I will get used to pulling a bow twice as powerful as the one I have back in the UK. I have always wanted a traditional bow anyway  :D

Actually not all clubs are the traditional kind. Koreans are one of the top countries in the world for Olympic archery. There is a world class archery range here in Ulsan and I am betting that there are more.
