I want some good material to listen to on my phone when out and about. I usually use Jango but I want to switch from music to something more substantive.

I hear http://www.stitcher.com/ is a good app but I am unsure of good, specific things.

What can you recommend?

I enjoy the Adam Carolla podcast the most.  I also listen to the Joe Rogan Experience (JRE), the Ten Minute Podcast (tenminpod), and the Greg Fitzsimmons Show (fitzdog radio).  JRE is probably the most informative depending on who the guest is.  Joe also probably has the widest variety of guests.

I haven't listened to Carolla. I will check it out. I always though Joe Rogan was a little bit out there. Is that not the case?

Any ideas for good audio book sites?

Hello!

For informative/scholarly both Radiolab and This American Life are great. They're very well produced and manage to be both informative and super entertaining.

As far as apps go, I like podkicker for android quite a bit.

If you're at all interested in something more on the comedy side, I can't recommend "The Complete Guide to Everything" enough. It's ostensibly a guide to various topics, but it's really just two friends bickering, bantering, and often misinforming. It's really, really, funny.

Check out "World of Mouth" from the BBC. It's a podcast about the funny uses of English language. Some recent topics have included how we talk to ourselves, poor instructions and the people who write them, and how we feel about our accents. It's about 30 mins long every week.
